DE Melvin Fellows (official thread)

$ Scout

Amazed by the crowd turnout for the spring game. Interacted with the current players and commits. Still says he is wide open with Illinois, Ohio State and USC being his top three in that order. Wants to commit before his senior season.

I thought he was commited?

Should we read into his glowing comments about his visit, or should we be worried that we are not the leader after his visit with us?

If you are serious, the "glowing remarks."

Why anyone would expect him to name the team he is "commited" to as anything other than the "leader" in an interview would be beyond me.

Official Recruiting Rule #12 states that it is good form to give glowing reports to all schools immediately following a visit.

Official Recruiting Rule #2 states that if you are not the leader immediately following a visit you are out of the running.

Howsomever, Rulle 22b states that if you have verbally committed to a school to which you are not committed in the depths of your heart you shall ignore rules #2, #12, and #17 (having to do with the wearing of jerseys) and take all appropriate actions to conceal your true intent.

If he isn't sure by now...

He's been to OSU at least 3 or 4 times since his last visit to Illinois, I dont even know when his last visit was. He wants to visit Illinois to make sure that the reasons he committed to them in the first place are still the way he feels and thus, to see if he's still 100% committed still.

When he comes back from his visit to Illinois in two weeks, the reports after that visit I think will be telling b/c then he would have been to both schools within a relatively short period of time and will be able to evaluate thetn.

Melvin hasn't been 100% committed to Illinois for a long time....

Melvin was supposed to visit Illinois yesterday, but he went to Ohio State instead. Isn't that telling enough?

Again, do 100% committed people take visits and say they still have a decision to make?

I believe the reason thrown around is a work schedule issue for Melvin. However, don'y you think if he was deadset on going to Illinois, he would have found a way to resolve whatever conflict there was with regards to his work and get there?

I think Zook might be getting some bad news two weeks from now when Fellows visits...

you guys are so certain, but you haven't proven anything either to convince us. i guess we will find out soon enough. Melvin tells us he is going to illinois, and you are saying that melvin told you guys he is going there. this will be interesting.

There is zero need to convince you of anything. You are on BUCKEYEPLANET. We have forums on RECRUITINGPLANET for Illinois fans to discuss this to the moon and back if they wish to do so.

We don't need to prove anything for you...you have your opinions and we have our own. Luckily, we each have a separate forum to discuss as needed.

So to sum up, both sides have reasons to be optimistic. Sounds like the typical recruiting process to me. I remember several recruits that worked out in tOSUs favor in similar circumstances - last year TE Nic Dillilo committed TWICE before he ended up with us - and then all of us remember the Ben Martin/Joe Barksdale types that told the staff they were Bucks, but somehow......were not.

Man, I love recruiting. I just wish I knew more of the curious details of these moves. I guess that's why I enjoyed the book Meat Market so much.
