DE/LB Thaddeus Gibson (official thread)

I loved what I saw of Thad in the Wisconsin game.

Kid looks like he is going to be absolutely unstoppable. The move he put on the tackle on his sack play was right out of the NFL.

Thad needs to be on the field more.

Seeing as we have only three scholarship full-time DE's with experience (Wilson, Rose, and Heyward), and with the staff also giving Mark Johnson at shot at DE, should we now consider Thaddeus no longer a LB but a DE?

Thaddeus Gibson, wearing last season's No. 37 jersey, was the top pick in the OSU spring draft. His selection was followed by several minutes of trash-talking by the senior captains. But Gibson, a Euclid High grad, has also impressed his teammates this spring.

Rising sophomore Thaddeus Gibson was the first pick today in the draft for Ohio State's spring game on Saturday.

Settling in for what will be his first full season as a defensive end, Gibson was drafted by the Scarlet team, captained by seniors that included Alex Boone, James Laurinaitis, Todd Boeckman and Curtis Terry.

After the selection, a scarlet No. 90 Gibson jersey was pulled from the podium by coach and draft commissioner Jim Tressel and proudly exhibited by Boone.

The move was in part strategic, with the Scarlet knowing that with the selection of Gibson, they would be assured of pairing him with another top defensive end, and they selected Cameron Heyward after the Gray team selected Lawrence Wilson.

"He's got a little swagger to him, he's aggressive and he's fun and he's a hard hitter," said Boone, the Scarlet spokesman for the draft. "They said they were going to take Thaddeus first, so it was all about that coin (flip)."

Malcolm Jenkins, who captained the Gray along with Marcus Freeman, Brian Robiskie and Steve Rehring, praised Gibson's drive, with a caveat.

"His engine is always going and he does make plays from time to time," Jenkins said. "But he does mess up a lot."

Informed that Jenkins believed Gibson doesn't know where he's going at time, Boone was incredulous.

"Yeah, he doesn't know where he's going. He's going to the quarterback," Boone said, "and he's going to get there a few times. We'll let Malcolm talk all he wants. We'll see who wins in the end."

Considering the respect for his performance by his team mates, we can hope he will be a monster at DE this year.
But, he needs a catchy nickname.
Thad "Gibbet" Gibson.
Thad "The Un-Guided Missile" Gibson?

I heard a simple "bad" Thad and liked it.
