DE Lawrence Wilson (official thread)

L. Wilson could be good enough to leave school after 3 years. Red shirting this year may not matter...

You still always want to take the redshirt so that you could keep your options open as long as possible. No one can be sure what the future has in store. Best wishes the Lawrence and his family. As for the Buckeyes, I sure hope no other DE goes down because the bench appears to be getting a little thin in that area.

Go Buckeyes!

If he can come back and contribute this year, then by no means do you try to redshirt. If we were talking about a 4-6 month recovery, different story. 6-8 weeks has him back in time for the stretch run.

Yes, it's not like he would use the RS this year.. and then stick around for two more seasons...

Playing the tail end of this season and all of next is probably on Lawrence's mind and the plan at this point..

Only if he's 100% in game-shape. Pushing him to play too early may worsen things.

I wish you a quick recover Lawrence.

Word!

I have a feeling that Lawrence isn't done for the year. If there is no collateral damage (ligaments, tendons, etc.), there is a very good chance he could be back for at least the bowl game and maybe even the final game or two of the regular season. He may decide to just take a medical red shirt anyhow. But if he comes back next year, has a stellar year and declares for the draft, the extra year of eligibility would not matter anyhow. I am hoping he will be back to pummel Michigan and I am sure Lawrence is too.

Depth an issue at defensive end
Junior defensive end Lawrence Wilson broke his right leg in the second quarter of the opener and could seek a medical redshirt year, but Tressel said the team hasn't ruled out having the Akron product back this year.

COLUMBUS: Players and coaches for the Ohio State Buckeyes held high hopes for defensive end Lawrence Wilson this season. Fate had something else in mind for the junior from St. Vincent-St. Mary High School.
Wilson broke his leg in OSU's 39-6 victory over Youngstown State on Saturday afternoon. He had surgery Sunday on the fractured tibia and, according to reports, could be out six to eight weeks.

Wilson is a true junior, and thus has only one more year of eligibility if the staff doesn't apply for the medical redshirt. Since it appears he won't be available before bowl time, there's no sense in blowing the chance at a medical redshirt by playing him in the bowl. Just let him play his senior year and if he plays as expected he'll be a high draft pick...we can always apply for the medical redshirt and get him his fifth year if for some reason he wants to stay for it.
