DE Keith Wells (Columbus State; transfer to Ohio Dominican)

Of course ND has great tradition, but much like um's when you compare their accomplishments during the modern era of college football to OSU's it's not close. Seriously, while the campus is nice, no better than Miami's, South Bend would be a tough place to live for a college kid, IMHO. I doubt it's even as big as Champaign.

Great points about ND, the 3-4 and Wells. What has Corwin Brown ever done. BTW, former ND DE Brian Hamilton worked for me for awhile. He was a great kid. When he visited um out of HS Brown was his player host at um. He had some eye-opening stories to tell about recruiting (and no I'm not saying anything nasty about um). He also told some funny stories about Holtz.

I just thought I needed to defend Keith a little bit, well most recruits really:

Some kids don't have the time, some don't have the means, and/or don't even think that "getting out" of their little home town will ever be possible.

Some of these kids join the armed forces in order to see other parts of the world. Some join AmeriCorp, or the PeaceCorp to "get out."

Keith and many other Division I football recruits have never had the chance to see other parts of the country, let alone get 5-star treatment by some of the biggest names in the sport. He is lucky enough to have the opportunity to see these other places, to leave the town he grew up in, and actually find out how amazing other parts of the country can be.

I think Keith deserves a little fun, a chance to travel and eat good food, take his mom places she has never been, and stay at nice hotels before he starts college, before he starts working what equates to 60 hour work weeks, before he starts the grind of college football.

Never mind, maybe he shouldn't take advantage of what is being given to him just so a few fans could feel better about the situation.

I just don't get the idea of taking a trip for "fun" to ND. He could visit Miami (FL) or other places that are a lot more fun. IMHO, it seems like he may be serious about ND.

heh, thought your original post was tic,but it turns out you were actually serious. We're in a recruiting forum in the last stretch of the year, yet you're having trouble comprehending something form the recruiting process. Hmmm..gotta love the disconnect between fans and the actual players.

All I'm saying is if he trips to ND, then he's clearly serious about the Irish, IMHO. If he's just looking for fun then there are trips he could make that would make a lot more sense from the fun aspect. If he visits ND it's concerning, especially since he play a real position of need for OSU. He's not saying ND offered a trip and he wants to see the place. He says he wants an offer and he's willing to go up there to get that spot.

Phx, take a step back from the ledge. This thread isn't meant to be your worried stream of consciousness.

I suspect that ND wants the on-campus visit maybe more so than Keith. They likely want to assess his interest one-on-one on their turf.

Based on the way ND has been operating with Weis and co at the helm, if they sense during Wells visit that his interest was more in another trip, or checking matters out (comparison shopping if you will), than pursuing an offer - then no offer will emerge.

With the wind-chill pushing temperatures below 0 and snow in the forecast for the next few days ... a trip to ND isn't intended as a vacation.

I think it is interesting that he's looking north generally. Usually these last minute players from the south that are still interested in OSU have 2-3 southern schools and OSU. Wells seems to be atypical in that regard.

"If" is the operative word and it seems those closer to the situation than you (not a stab at you in any way) are taking this MUCH better than you are. I would follow their lead (it's for a good reason!).

Don't let a bunch of posters here convince you....just go by your gut feeling. Good idea.

His wanting to see ND is a good thing for OSU. That definitely proves that he has not "ruled out" a northern school. I for one would put OSU's facilities up against ND's any day of the week but of course I am biased......

From what I hear, I would too. Don't you guys have the biggest athletic budget in the country?
