DE Jaylahn (JT) Tuimoloau (Owner, Giant Erector Set, All B1G)

Sammamish (Wash.) Eastside Catholic defensive lineman J.T. Tuimoloau just announced his top five on the 247Sports Signing Day Show on CBS Sports HQ.

Tuimoloau announced a top five of, in alphabetical order, Alabama, Ohio State, Oregon, USC and Washington.

The nation's No. 1 prospect in 2021 per 247Sports, Tuimoloau had never intended to sign during the early signing period, even before the pandemic and NCAA dead periods.

He will instead take his recruitment until National Signing Day in February, at the soonest, but it wouldn't be a surprise if he went past that date.

The inaugural No. 1 player in 2021 by 247Sports, Tuimoloau has gone wire-to-wire as the top player in the country. The industry-generated 247Sports Composite Rankings have him as the No. 3 player nationally.

J.T. Tuimoloau Scouting Report: Powerful, athletic and nimble, with room to still add significant weight at the next level. Has lined up on the edge, mixing with hand down while also standing up. Elite pass rusher, who can mix a variety of moves with pure strength to shed his blockers. Can drop into coverage against running backs, receivers and tight ends and has the athleticism and ball skills to be a force in coverage. Has even played safety. Could be a top tight end prospect if he focused on offense, with natural pass-catching skills, ability to track the ball and high point it and run after the catch. Also a high-major basketball player, averaging nearly a double-double in prep career. As he continues to add weight and strength, figures to be among the elite pass-rushers at the next level. Projects as an instant impact Power 5-starter and a Top Ten overall draft pick.

SKULL SESSION: ANOTHER FIVE-STAR COULD BE COMING TO OHIO STATE, MICHIGAN'S SIGNING DAY WAS NOT SMOOTH, AND THE BCS SYSTEM MIGHT HAVE BEEN BETTER

THE NEXT FIVE-STAR?
The Buckeyes already signed five five-star #teens yesterday (which is more than double the rest of the Big Ten combined, by the way). But there's always room for one more!

As for Ohio State's chances of landing him, it's tough to say because he really doesn't talk to anyone to give anybody information. Like, that video was the first time in my life I'd ever heard him speak.

But don't worry, y'all. Emeka Egbuka is on the case.

If he does take his talents to Columbus, I'm not sure there are words to explain how terrifying that pass rush is going to be with him and Jack Sawyer on opposite sides of a quarterback.

The Buckeyes' chances likely got a bit of a boost yesterday with some news across the coaching landscape. Steve Sarkisian has been the primary recruiter for Tuimoloau with defensive coordinator Pete Golding also playing a role. Sarkisian's move to Austin takes away an important relationship that the Tide had with the five-star. Sarkisian is a West Coast guy who spent five seasons coaching the Huskies from 2009 through 2013.

Ohio State will square off against Alabama next Monday in Miami. For Tuimoloau, there's no real end in sight as he's hoping to take some visits before announcing his decision. The plan had been for a February signing day decision, but that may very well get pushed back depending on when and if he can make a few trips. Out of all his favorites, Ohio State is the lone program he's yet to visit.

From the pinnacle of recruiting news, Yahoo Sports:
Washington was the first school to offer Tuimoloau in early in his star-studded recruitment. The Huskies have pulled some big commitments out of their own backyard in recent years, but Ohio State seems to have a slight advantage over the field when it comes to securing Tuimoloau’s services, as his 247Sports Crystal Ball currently reads heavily in favor of the Buckeyes.

“Coach Larry Johnson and the history he has had with putting defensive lineman in the league really sticks out to me and I have always had a close relationship with Gee Scott,” Tuiomoloau said of Ohio State, per 247Sports’ Brandon Huffman.
