DE Jaylahn (JT) Tuimoloau (Owner, Giant Erector Set, All B1G)

Love this kid, he is a dying breed of a recruit that doesn't care about social media or rankings. Just puts his nose down and works, and has plans after football. JT is the exact type of recruit we want here aside from the unreal talent. I will be rooting for him wherever he goes, but lets hope it is Columbus.

FIVE-STAR DEFENSIVE END J.T. TUIMOLOAU INCLUDES OHIO STATE, MICHIGAN, ALABAMA IN TOP-SEVEN LIST

116973_h.jpg

Tuimoloau is a 6-foot-5, 280-pound standout from Eastside Catholic (Washington) High School, the same school where he and Ohio State receiver Gee Scott Jr. won two consecutive state championships in 2018 and 2019.

This is the first major on-record recruiting update for Tuimoloau, the No. 2 overall player and No. 2 strongside defensive end in America, in quite some time, as he is an intensely private prospect who keeps things close to the chest.

Ohio State is considered the leader right now in his recruitment, but 247Sports' Brandon Huffman has reported multiple times that Tuimoloau is willing to be as patient as possible before making a college commitment. He is planning on playing football in the spring, as Washington has pushed high school football back to February-March, and he does not plan on enrolling early. He may not make a decision until National Signing Day in February.

Tuimoloau is the Buckeyes' top target left in the 2021 cycle and is a player that would make an already top-tier recruiting class even more impressive. Ohio State already has five-star defensive end Jack Sawyer – the No. 3 overall player and No. 3 strongside defensive end in the class – in the fold, in addition to top-55 overall player and the No. 4 defensive tackle in Mike Hall, plus the No. 10 defensive tackle in America in Tyleik Williams.

Well, wish he was down to only one - the good guys.....do like the fact that he's playing it cool/close to the vest, and doing the recruiting dance on his terms. Shows fortitude and self-confidence in my humble opinion. His talent is undisputed, and he'll be a star whatever campus he graces. Hope he joins his former teammate at tOSU, of course, he would be the capstone to a great DL haul this recruiting cycle. tOSU is losing a lot of talent this year (don't they always), and early playing time could be in his future. Maybe not as early as some of the other teams that are 'thinner' at DL, but soon. Go Bucks!

Buckeyes still trying to cap off 2021 class with the finishing touches

Another update on OSU’s top remaining target

As everyone who follows Ohio State recruiting knows, the Buckeyes 2021 class is truly loaded. While this class would and should be enough for just about anyone, Ryan Day and his crew aren’t content with calling it a day just yet. With still a couple spots open and left up for grabs, the Buckeyes know exactly who they want.

Chasing after J.T. Tuimoloau, the nation’s No. 2 overall prospect according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, for what seems like a decade now, the Buckeyes have been right at the top of his list since the beginning. Thanks to the track record at Ohio State, and specifically how Larry Johnson prepares his guys for the NFL, the Buckeyes have long been thought to be the leader for Tuimoloau.

Because of COVID-19 and the inability for the Washington native to see Ohio State’s campus, this recruitment will likely go until the latest possible moment. Fortunately for the Buckeyes, they have been the one common player through it all. The current commits in the 2021 class would love nothing more than for Tuimoloau to attend their “Buckeye Bash” next weekend, but due to distance, that doesn’t look like it will be too likely to happen.

They will certainly keep trying, as will Ohio State’s staff, to stay in the thick of things, but the latest development here is that the Buckeyes will have to fend off likely one other school until the end of this recruitment.

Ohio State certainly isn’t out of the woods yet with Tuimoloau, and it seems it is now between they and Alabama as the two programs vying for his services the most this late in the game. What the Buckeyes have going for them is the ability to tout coach Johnson and his impressive resume, as well as their strong relationship with him and how long it has been building.

An interesting point to take note of is that Tuimoloau has in fact been to Alabama to see what the Crimson Tide have to offer. On the flipside, while he has not yet been to Columbus, Tuimoloau is still viewed as a heavy Ohio State lean per the 247Sports Crystal Ball. With Washington and USC as two other programs that were in this recruitment, it really now does look to be a two-horse race with Ohio State and Alabama.

Ryan Day and Larry Johnson will be on this one heavy, and it really gives you the sense that the next great Ohio State five-star defensive-end will end up in Columbus.

THAT AIN'T FAIR. Today's Skull Session is unintentionally a little heavy on #teens who haven't even decided to commit to Ohio State yet, which is decidedly Zack's territory and not usually my comfort zone.

But when the Buckeyes' top target – who plays defensive line, mind you – makes an Odell-esque catch between two cornerbacks in double coverage in a seven-on-seven game, I can't just not say something.

Personally, I think that the Buckeyes should request that he sign with Ohio State, and then never take him off the football field.

Another example of being careful when posting something that you see elsewhere.

Poster at BN posts that Ari Wasserman says that Bama now leads and Kurelic echos that. Posters freak. Someone heads straight to 11W and posts that Ari and Bill say Bama now leads. Posters freak. Makes it’s way to Twitter.

Turns out Ari never said that at all. When he said Bama now leads, he was talking about the class rankings. Kurelic saying Bama leads was that same poster quoting a random Bama poster who had misinterpreted something Bill said months ago.
