DE Jaylahn (JT) Tuimoloau (Owner, Giant Erector Set, All B1G)

The writer was probably corrected by someone close to the situation. He (the insider) told the Husky 247 board that they led last week.

Maybe. Or maybe the writer was hanging around Ford Sports Performance seeking a scoop
where J.T. works out (and Scott Sr.for that matter) and was 'politely' corrected there.
Either way props to the writer for manning up and printing the truth. Too many team
insiders are strangers to it.

Excellent news.

Not to put too much emphasis on a single recruit; to me, the defensive tackle position is one of the most important in recruiting. There have been times when Ohio State has lacked great playmakers at one position or another and has still fielded great teams. That has seldom been the case at defensive tackle.

From 1968-1977, Ohio State always had a tackle on the team that would be an All-American at one point in his career. The torch was passed from Stillwagon to Hasenohrl to Cusick to Brown. Then Ohio State didn't have an All-American at DT for 16 years, till 1993 (Big Daddy). They also went through one of the worst runs of mediocrity that the Buckeyes have ever suffered (thank Woody it's never been worse than mediocrity for more than a season at a time).

Every recruit that signs with the Buckeyes is an addition to the family and gets my respect, but this guy is the one target in this class that I most want the Buckeyes to land.

I would like to thank (in this case, the eponymous) ShowMeBuck for helping me to illustrate that a picture is worth a thousand words. (Or, as in this case, 175 words)

To be fair, from 1968-1993 it was so much more ground and pound it kind of negates your point. Game-changing defensive tackles are hard to come by. Bama and Clemson have had them as of late. I believe dre’mont Jones or Michael Bennett and Quinn pitcock are the best ones we’ve had in 20 years. Here’s to tOSU finding some game wreckers at DT on the current roster and future to pair with the edge rush.

A heavy emphasis on the run game negates the importance of defensive tackles? Or are you saying that the heavy emphasis on the run game is why defensive tackles were more important back then. And the lesser importance of defensive tackles now is what negates my point? I’ve seen people make all kinds of points on this board, neither position would surprise me.

Either way... I don’t see it your way. A stout middle of the defensive line is a timeless principle. My point really only relies on three things. 1) Was it a coincidence that Ohio State was mediocre during its longest stretch without a legit defensive tackle? I certainly don’t think so, but I doubt that’s your point so on to.... 2) Can a team win a title with just “OK” defensive tackles in today’s game? Again, I don’t think so. If you’re soft in the middle, nothing else matters. That’s not going to change, it’s a timeless principle. Is the pass rushing defensive end more important now? Obviously, but Ohio State is loaded there, including in the 2021 class, and that brings us to 3), is it a position of need? In my opinion, it is.

I think the point about defensive tackles that we can most agree on is that we want Ohio State to have the best of them

Can’t forget John Hankins. In any event JT could Secretly be one of the most important recruits of the last 4 years. One or both of Taron Vincent and Tommy Togiai could easily jump to the draft in the next year or two. current roster has 9 defensive ends and 7 defensive tackles not counting walk-ons. Last years class only has one potential DT in Darrion Henry. Then class of 21’ has just one as well. Surely there can be a position switch but not likely the caliber of this animal.

Big Daddy Wilkinson should also be mentioned when we're talking DTs. The ability to occupy OL men, and allow the LBs to penetrate and make tackles is kinda what DT is all about. If there's a one-on-one match up, yeah, the DT can work through the OL, but for the life of me, I'd be so busy working my way through the OL, I'd probably miss the RB slashing right beside me......Big Daddy was called 'a man among boys' more than once. Either way, Coach Johnson picks his DL on the attributes that can make them great. If a great DE eats his way to become a DT, hopefully he uses his knowledge well. Go Bucks!

Not a great DE, but a good one who moved to being a good DT, was Adolphus Washington. OSU has had quite the list of DTs with which to choose from

Today the state of Washington decided to move high school football to the spring of 2021. This has ramifications all the way to Columbus if the rumors turn out to be substantiated.

1. J.T.'s family had already been thought to be leaving the Pacific NW after his fb season. This decision could be the impetus to make the move soon. The name "IMG"
has come up as a likely destination and would seem to elevate the chances of Ohio St. but probably will still be a Feb.decision.

2. What about Egbuka? Rumor there is this may hasten his decision to the point of doing away with more visits which would possibly again work in
Ohio State's favor.
Something to keep an eye on.
