DC Jim Knowles (Official Thread)

Actually thought the D improved a ton from the eye test.

Couple bad drives but hey…the Head Coach had his side with 5-6 bad drives too.

Weird game where I don’t know who to blame but it doesn’t *feel* like the defense. Save the last clock eating drive (which they eventually stood tall for 3 points).

I’ll stick with Jim.

You say that after watching the second half? (pick a year)

He can fuck off but if Day is still the HC it doesn't matter, we have bigger issues.

I have my bullseye on Day and the offense man.

Get a lead and this D is lethal. They gave the Offense 3-4 chances to get ahead. That was important and they failed.

I think this D was good enough to win. Plus one more year with this D’s trajectory is fine. They were playing just fine - JJ made some BS plays. And then yeah…the 7 min drive.

They still gave Day’s side of the ball with a chance to win. They’re the ones that lost it. That’s my anger.

Totally agreed.

Defense could’ve played better but they weren’t given much help all damn game.

I'm not saying fire Knowles, but fuck the defense really let us down this game. Time of possession and points. Offense stepped up when needed, then the defense gave up 5+ minutes and points every time.

I won't place the loss squarely on the defense since McCord just gave them a TD on that pick. But the defense just didn't get the job done and gets a losing grade.

This! Couldn't get stops when needed over and over. No takeaways, 1 sack?, 1 tfl?

I'll say it, fire Knowles, the D is always porous as fuck in these big games, and my god how long has it been since we have had a decent pass rush ? The amount of talent at DLine and LB should mean we get to the QB much more than we're doing. Knowles is not good enough for the Bucks, give me some stingy defenses, that classy 4-3 instead of this scheme which we clearly can't run at a good enough level in primetime situations.

Gave up 23 points, can't complain all that much. But it was the way the 2nd half points came does raise a problem.

I'll also say that Knowles didn't have players get out of gaps or bif downhill tackles. The LB play has been declining since week 2. I suspect a lot of that has to do with the way teams attack Steele and Tommy. There are weaknesses in their games that are awfully difficult to cover up. LB's are the glue, and if they struggle, likely so does the entire defense.

Pourous as fuck in big games? Did you watch Notre Dame or Penn State? This it's only a big game if we lose mentality needs to stop.

The D let us down on the 2nd half. They were also the reason we even had a shot going into he 2nd half

The D was very pourous in the ND game, they just didn't punish us enough and as they should, and sorry but Penn State is completely overrated offensively, their last great offense was like in 2018 or 2019, hell I'll say something that might be controversial, but I don't think Drew Allar is a better QB than Trace McSorley.

Ps I'm not saying Knowles isn't a good coach I just don't think his schemes fit us

I think what we’ve learned about Knowles is his scheme doesn’t fit against a team like Michigan. You need 3 LBs against that style of play and the ability to get pressure with your line.
