DB Marcus Williamson (Official Thread)

If you have an issue, it's one best brought to the attention of your coach directly and immediately.

Urban has been gone for 3 seasons now, and Williamson only chooses to air this laundry after his own self destructive departure?

Yeah, sorry. You'll forgive anyone for meeting your words with healthy skepticism given the obvious motivations. After all... "fucc Ohio State".
While I agree completely, I also think Williamson has shone a light on additional potential problems on the defensive side of the coaching staff.

That light has been shone on the defensive coaches since the opening drive of the 2020 season. His words only serve as a further validation to the lack of coaching prowess on that side. Had he said nothing, it's not like anyone with a pair of eyes would believe the defense has been up to tOSU standards.

I mean how much smoke needs to swirl around Urban Meyer before some people are willing to acknowledge that there just might be a fire there. Florida, Ohio State and Jacksonville all ended as complete shitshows. #DrakeWasRight

This kid has certainly made questionable decisions and can soundly be criticized for them. That, however, in and of itself doesn't automatically negate what he's saying. Using Trayvon Martin as a warning not to wear hoodies? What kind of fucked up psycho shit is that. Maybe Urban didn't see a racial aspect to that, and if he didn't then it just means he's one profoundly stupid football coach.

Urban mighta been some what normal or possibly pushing the lines.. but something seems clear that mentally/psychologically something might have snapped on him.. not sure what... but he mighta thought he was being cute or funny or thought "I'm a god what are they gonna do" ... who knows... glad he's not the coach anymore but something stinks around him but nothing is out in the open yet.

At the same time, emphasizing that young African American men are treated differently in many situations including by law enforcement and vigilante white guys with guns, a disparity that is largely rooted in unconscious bias at best and outright racism at worst, and that because of this African American men should be aware that even things like what they choose to wear could alter their interactions with other people, up to and including tragic outcomes of which there are many examples including Trayvon Martin, seems like a fairly valid and important point to make with a group of young African American athletes.

Now, do I think the lesson was presented with nuance and sensitivity by Urban Meyer? Probably not. I also don’t think he was threatening to murder people if they wore a hood up in the building. The reality is likely somewhere in the middle.

Yeah, I'm glad he's gone. I was relieved at the time that he took his ball and ran away after the suspension. As bad as the Zach Smith shitshow was, I have a feeling that he could have flamed out in a far more disastrous fashion had he been given another couple of years, especially if the board told him that he was King of the University and untouchable.

I absolutely agree with that, and if I thought that was the point Urban was trying to make, I'd support him wholeheartedly. His bringing in Larry Elder, however, speaks to the belief on his part that racism is not a problem in America. I give him zero credit for trying to make a point about racism in America. I think he was just being an asshole and a bully.

Urban is an easy target (much of it self earned), but context and truth isn't going to be given ever. Airing this during the game is an interesting choice, and doesn't leave room for any winners here, if true. I'm not about to speculate about the accuracy of the alleged thumbnail (which is what most of this hinges on).

I'm not sure there's anyone who has followed Urban who would doubt the smoking comment or the overall aggressive stance on hoodies.

Also, between Cardale, hurt for ages Johnny, lowly touted Tyvis, buckeye legacy Evan, there was undoubtedly plenty of rough "motivation" tactics used on that group, given Urban's history and style of challenging his guys. So it's interesting to see their response to this.
