What the hell is a "system CB"? Did we play in a system where the other team wasn't allowed to throw to his side?

I believe what those 'draft analysts' mean is that a CB that doesn't have a great 40 time can play CB on a team that plays something like a cover-2 scheme most of the time, since there would normally be safety help deep. Thus, the alleged weakness shown in the 40 time won't be exposed like it would be if the CB had man-to-man responsibility all the way down the field.

I'm not agreeing with that assessment regarding Malcolm - just trying to explain what those guys are trying to say.

Now, I never get too excited one way or the other concerning somone's opinion of a past or present Buckeye. Opinions are like asshole's: everyone has one. What I do have a problem with is a guy that insinuate's that Morgan Trent is worthy of being drafted in the top 60 picks. That there shows you that he's never watched much Michigan football. You don't get the nickname 'toast' for no reason.

I took that as a compliment, myself. Whatever makes them sleep at night when a team that needs a shut-down CB doesn't take him early, because he's gonna be a good one at the next level.

lol You know what?

I hope Malcolm falls to a really nice situation. This is just a blessing in disguise. I hope he ends up at a great franchise with a winning record. I mean in the end, a 5 million dollar signing bonus difference is small relative to landing a great contract at a great team.

Greenies for you. I was thinkin the same thing. Everyone is clamoring over falling from the top 10. If he does, he will just end up with a better team, better coaching, and likely a more stable future with a more stable franchise.

This brings up an interesting point. Nowadays the draft gurus are all guys who have never played a down of football. Building off that is something I heard from Jay Bilas in which he said the biggest problem with march madness is that the majority of the guys in the selection room making the decision are all businessmen and have never played basketball at thet type of level.

Overall my point is that with football there are just players who regardless of speed or size or height, they just get it and MJ is just a pure STUD.

Most NFL teams play a myriad of coverages. It is actually pretty rare that a team has 2 corners playing man-to-man every play. It would not be a negative to say Malcolm might be more attractive to a team that plays alot of "Tampa 2" defense. Tremendous responsibilities in run support and in the short passing game in this defense. Deion Sanders would have never made all-pro if he had played in this system. You see these mistakes every year in free agency where teams grab players that don't fit. Super fast corners that are physical, can tackle, and excel in run support aren't in every draft. There just aren't many Champ Bailey's out there.

I hope Malcolm runs well at pro day to defang some of his media critics. Hope he goes to a team that is a good fit. I have no doubt that he will have a successful 10 year nfl career.

File this under useless info that doesnt mean squat but....I was watching NFL Network last night to get some free agency updates when I noticed they were scrolling Jamie Dukes' (1 of the hosts on the network and he played forever in the league) mock draft. He didnt have Jenkins going in the 1st round. He had Vontae Davis, DJ Butler and Alphonso Smith but no Malcolm Jenkins......fwiw

Darius Butler? Or D.J. Moore? Anyway, Jamie Dukes is retarded. He can't even assess linemen, let alone other positions. He's just feeding off of Mayock (who has become more and more McShay-esque with his rise to prominence over the last two years).

The one I saw from Jamie Dukes on nfl.com had the following:

14 Saints Vontae Davis CB Illinois
16 Chargers Knowshon Moreno RB Georgia
17 Jets Alphonso Smith CB Wake Forest
21 Eagles Chris "Beanie" Wells RB Georgia
23 Patriots Darius Butler CB Connecticut
24 Falcons DJ Moore CB Vanderbilt
26 Ravens James Laurinaitis LB Ohio State

That's quite possibly the worst mock draft I've ever seen (even aside from the fact that the guy apparently has no idea where the consensus #1 or 2 RB in the draft went to college).

I'd love to see JL in Baltimore. Terrible mock though.

Agree with the comment about Mayock. He's the worst at times IMO. He's said some things that blow me away. I wish I could remember one thing he said during the combine when I was watching on NFL Network.

With our current nation-wide expansion recruiting-wise, we could seriously rival perennial national recruiting powers like Michigan and Notre Dame. If we do indeed rise to that level of national recruiting, along with keeping the cream of the Ohio crop, then our future teams could be downright scary...

You don't say? :wink2:

I will say that I like both D.J. Moore and Alphonso Smith better than Jenkins as pure man-to-man corners, but I don't see how anyone can not have him (Jenkins) as the top corner prospect or at the worst top two at his position. I would love for him to fall to the Bears as a free safety (even though we have other needs), but he really should be gone by 12 at the absolute latest.
