DB Malcolm Jenkins (All B1G, All-American, Thorpe Award, All-Pro, 2x Super Bowl Champion)

Assuming he goes to the NFL next year I was curious how young he would be, if the youngest. Well Jamir Miller was the youngest ever but was too busy to look up how young, but as a point of reference,
Terrell Suggs was the sixth-youngest player drafted since the merger. As of the day of his selection, Suggs was 20 years, six months and 15 days old.

So Malcolm would one 5 youngest players at least.

Man, I love the intensity this guy plays with. He seems to be able to get in the head of the guy lined up across from him...and pretty early in the game.

The last secondary guy I remember playing with that kind of intensity was Rob Kelly.

Would have been nice to see Malcom on the Thorpe list. I'm sort of surprised he didn't, but on the other hand not really with how little attention he seems to get.

I think he deserves as many accolades as possible. He brings it every game with his coverage and great tackling. He's a fun player to watch.

Definitely...As far as Rob Kelly, I remember in the Penn State game he jumped over the line to try to sack their quarterback and it seemed like he almost kicked the dude down. Never forget that play!!

I agree, but it also always seems he does "extra" stuff. I am waiting for a 15 yarder from him. Sometimes he crosses the line, just like Sat he did the jump-shot thing. I have already counted on him to get an unsportsmen like vs. Michigan.

Yea, I agree. But, I'll take 15 every now and again for the energy that he brings!

He got royally screwed out of being a Thorpe finalist. He's being penalized for playing on a "no-name" defense(coming into the season) and being only a true sophomore. I won't feel too sorry for him though since he'll probably be 1st team all Big-10 and make an All-American team. Not to mention a Big-10 Championship and National Championship.

Respectfully, I don't buy that. In the case of no one getting attention for playing on a "no-name" defense, Laurinitis wouldn't be up for the Butkus, not to mention that former walk-on Antonio Smith is representing the Bucks for the Thorpe award. Our defense has received a LOT of attention this year. I mean, how many times have you heard the media refer to the Buckeyes "replacing 9 starters on defense" this year?

Jenkins simply got overlooked. I guarantee you that he won't be overlooked next year though...

It's easier to get hype as a linebacker, IMO. You're in on more plays. Plus, he had the whole "My dad is a pro wrestler" story which put him even more in the spotlight.

And I'm shocked at Antonio Smith. I never expected him to be a finalist or semif-finalist. But he is a 5th year senior not a true sophomore plus him being a former walk-on is a great story.

I heard the media refer the Buckeyes replacing 9 new defensive starters all year. The problem is they never really talked about them. Everyone's perception was "they're young so they probably won't be that good". Pitcock was the only player with preseason hype.

I'm not suggesting there's a conspiracy, rather that they seriously overlooked a great CB and should have made him a finalist.

I would have taken Malcolm over Leon Hall anyday of the week, especially leading into THE GAME. After watching Hall get torched play after play, I just smiled and smiled because I got so sick of hearing about how Hall is the best cover corner in the nation. IMHO, not only is he not the best cover corner in the country, but he wasn't the best cover corner in this game because of Malcolm. Also, on a night where Hart was running through arms left and right, how great of a tackler (open field especially) is Malcolm?

SHOULD be All-American, BETTER be 1st Team All Big Ten.
