DB/LB Chad Hagan (official thread)

The kid is fast but the Scout combine in Pittsburgh always have ridiculous numbers. They don't do a very good job with accuracy. They had four kids there run under a 4.4 and I don't even know if there are that many players at the NFL combine that run under a 4.4. Supposedly they made him run it again and he ran a 4.5. The kid is a physical specimen but you have to wonder why so few schools have offered him. Pitt, Penn State, and West Virginia didn't even offer him. Penn State has Mike Hull so they know all about Hagan, and Pitt and West Virginia offer everybody in western PA. And it can't be grades because West Virginia never cared about that. The word is, he is a better athlete than a player. But I guess he is worth a shot.

Yeah I knew it was a hand timed and I knew the second time he ran slower. So I did figured it wasn't legit, but in the 4.4 range at 210 is very impressive. I just wonder if the kid might out grow saftey, and become an OLB, which we are stacked at.
I would absolutely salivate at the thought of a 210+ lb. safety running a 4.4 roaming the Buckeyes' defensive backfield. If he can maintain his speed after adding some muscle he'll be a beast back there.

Scout typically uses hand-timing, Rivals often uses SPARQ & electronic measurements.

Rivals has him at 4.45. Assuming that's electronic, I'll take it.

Well, this event was electronically timed. As Cheetah has pointed out, there have been problems in the past with their times being low, so the 4.29, while electronic, may not be legit (perhaps the timing wasn't calibrated, the distance too short, etc.). What is legit, though, is that Hagan was the fastest guy at that combine. Better than speedsters like Ifill and Doran Grant. And better than Jamel Turner's 4.55 (and he has some awesome 110 meter hurdles times). So, Hagan may not be a 4.29 guy but he does have excellent speed, especially considering he's 210 and he was running with a shin fracture.

Offers roll in for Hagan

Canon-McMillan's Chad Hagan did not play football as a sophomore and he's coming off surgery for a stress fracture in his shin but that hasn't kept the 6-1, 210 senior-to-be from garnering serious Division I attention.

Hagan, already a three-year letterwinner in basketball, returned to the football team for his junior year and brought back the big-play ability he displayed as a freshman.

N Illinois was the first to offer Hagan, who ran a 4.29 40-yard dash in one skills camp. Since taking the SATs, Hagan received offers from Ohio State, Wisconsin and Michigan.

One unusual aspect of Hagan's recruitment is, depending on the school, he's being evaluated at three different positions - tailback, free safety and outside linebacker.

North Carolina State and Buffalo also have offered, and Penn State, Pitt and West Virginia are among the others interested.

Canon-Mac safety up to 5 D-1 offers
Posted by Joshua Funk Saturday July 04, 2009

Canon-McMillan's second defensive Division-1 recruit, safety Chad Hagan, is up to five Division-1 offers, according to Rivals.com.

The Big Macs' other D-1 recruit, Mike Hull, has already verbally committed to Penn State.

Hagan boasts offers from four Big Ten schools: Ohio State, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Illinois. The fifth offer comes from Atlantic Coast Conference rep. NC State.

The 6'2, 210-pound Hagan runs a 4.45 in the 40-yard dash, according to his recruiting profile.

Other interested schools include Pitt, Penn State, Purdue, and West Virginia.
