DB/LB Chad Hagan (official thread)

Kid is big... do you think he will stay fast enough to play Safety or will he move to linebacker at tOSU. Especially without getting Joyner, I think Hagan would get the most opportunity at Safety. Anyone think safety is still an option for him? Or, crazy thought here... if he is already 230, he could get up to the 250-260 range in college and move to a DE spot? This kid's position at the next level confuses me more than any of our commits.

I see him playing the Star, the hybrid LB/Safety position we've seen from guys like Jermale Hines and Tyler Moeller recently

JT loves his safeties to be big, fast and physical that can step up and help in the run. Doss, Whitner, Hines....so Hagan has the style and physical assets that make him an attractive option for the staff at safety, I'd imagine.

He has been timed (at a combine) at 4.3. Given the accuracy of most high school 40 times, does this mean he runs at 4.3? Who knows, but I don't think speed is something he is lacking.

He is only 207 pounds right now, NOT 230.

You bug the bathroom scale? Pre or post-breakfast? haha... I'm not trying to be a dick but the arbitrary weights that pop up in the recording world are more often than not absurd. He allegedly measured 6', 207 half a year ago, then claimed to be 6'2, 230 just football season. He then dealt with a heart condition only before playing a decent chunk of a football season. He could honestly hit campus next year anywhere between 190-230+ and no one would be justified in being surprised. In the end, the position he plays will be determined more by his flexibility, acceleration, agility and ever-developing skill-set than his weight. The video out there on Hagan suggests WLB, but time will obviously tell...

Hence "do you think he will stay fast enough".

I was implying that if he's fast now, staying fast won't be an issue. Most players get faster in a college strength/conditioning program.

Ok, maybe if he gains 60 pounds. I like the odds of that not happening.

He could very well end up at LB or star, I just don't think lack of speed will be the reason for the switch.

Bucknuts $ - Heart Issue Doesn't Stop Hagan
By Dave Biddle
Posted Feb 03, 2010

Now listed at 6'2/225, Hagan is completely recovered from the procedure he underwent to correct his heart condition & irregular heatbeat... He'll report to OSU in June & he'll be ready to play wherever the coaches want him to... Once he received
his OSU offer he knew that's where he wanted to go... He's hoping to wear #21 & complete for PT from day one...

Gotta think that he would fit perfectly in this role with his size and speed. The key would be how well does he tackle. If he could develope a physical presence, he could really be a monster at the STAR position.
