Might have something to do with that lame duck hit agaisnt NW.

I wondered if it had something to do with his inability to wrap up on that play too. You know how important special teams are to JT. He might be making a point with young Mr. Clifford.

Absolutely no question that is the reason why Clifford was benched from special teams. My youngest daughter could've wrapped up better on that attempt. His failure to make an easy tackle cost us a shutout, and you know JT was pissed at that. Not bashing Eugene...he's made some good plays, but that one was really bad.

His showing support on the sidelines shows he's not pouting about being benched, and will probably hasten his return as a special teams starter.

I'm sure you are correct. Having said that, didn't Gene, later in the same game, make a nice tackle on the next kickoff return?

I dont remember a hit on special teams but he did deliver a nice hit later in the game.

Curious that he would travel, but not play?

He is on the two deep at cornerback. Just an injury away from him being "the man."

I don't think that makes up for his gaff. Now, you may be wondering why didn't they yank him out immediately after the missed tackle? Not sure, but it seems the most logical reason for him not playing special teams against Minny was he was in JT's doghouse for that week...

Face it, There is so much speed and talent on this team that anyone who screws up may lose his job to someone waiting in the wings. That may be what happened to Clifford. Not saying that he has lost his job but the was it is handled could be a message.

I don't think it makes up for the gaff either (at least not in the staff's mind). And my guess would be that they only make decisions like that after reviewing the game film (or if there's an obvious pattern in a game). So, he had the 1 miscue in the game and so they kept him in there. Then perhaps they reviewed the film and made the determination... All just guesses. In any event, I'm hopeful that Gene keeps it together since he's a boatload of talent!

Uh, I'd say that getting benched after being the cause for NW's only score is definitely a message...no "could" about it.

every game I've seen so far this season BENCHING is the message for any player that makes a mistake but, it helps being so deep with talent.

Sitting in B deck I always yell out BENCH TIME and off to the bench he goes. Wish , I never had to say it but, I think woody hayes forces me to speak out.

Still on the two-deep but not on participation report. Wierd.

Benching message is more about practice habits than not wrapping up...Gene needs to bring it every day and focus that potential.
Thanks for the insight. Curious, why still list him in the two-deep then? I guess I'd assume that they'd put the "real" #2 in the two deep...
