Colerain senior safety Eugene Clifford has given an oral commitment to play football at Ohio State, Colerain coach Kerry Coombs said today.
Clifford is the state's No. 1-ranked senior prospect by some scouting services including Rivals.com, which rates Clifford the No. 28 player nationally."
I talked to (Ohio State coach) Jim Tressel, and he confirmed Eugene has a commitment to Ohio State," Coombs said.
Clifford is expect to affirm the commitment on ESPNU tonight at 7 p.m., in a live announcement. He also was considering Florida State, Notre Dame, Tennessee and West Virginia.
The 6-2, 190-pound Clifford was a starter as a sophomore on Colerain's 2004 Ohio Division I state title team. As a junior he had six interceptions.
This year, he has returned an interception 85 yards for a touchdown and also has played wide receiver, running back, quarterback, and has returned punts and kickoffs.
He has led Colerain to a 4-0 record and rankings of No. 3 in the state (AP), No. 23 nationally (USA Today) and tied for No. 1 in the Enquirer Division I area coaches' poll.
