DB Adam Griffin (official thread)

Very cool. The Bucks are pretty stacked at RB for the next few years, but I'm betting that young Adam works his butt off and gets on the field as a special teams demon. Smart kid with a high football IQ...he'll find a way to make an impact.

Congrats...and Go Bucks!

I don't want to nitpick with you because you certainly are more well versed when it comes to these types of things but I do believe that Archie in the past couple weeks was "promoted or transferred" to a VP position within The Ohio State University. I am not quite sure if the Alumni Association was moved also but I do know that Archie is now employed by The University.

True dat...

As part of the change, alumni association President and CEO Archie Griffin will join the university's leadership team as senior vice president for alumni relations.

The association will remain a separate nonprofit corporation but Griffin and the other 56 full-time workers will become university employees. The association will retain a separate board, but it will grow to 19 members with the addition of two university appointees.

:so:

No doubt a fine young man, and also no doubt excellent in the locker room, in the classroom and in the community. Can't beat the bloodlines.

Offers from Air Force, Navy, Eastern Illinois? Still a head-scratcher to me.

His dad won 2 Heismans and 4 Rose Bowls.

Still scratching your head?

Kid wants to be here....he'll work hard on and off the field and contribute anyway he can

id rather see the last scholarship go out to a kid like Adam who WANTS to be a buckeye, and from all accounts is a good character kid who will work his hardest and be good for team chemistry. Rather than one of these recruits that have a sort of circus around their commitment and cant seem to make up their mind

Not to mention the son of a 2 time heisman winner.... always welcome in my book

I was unaware Archie Griffin was the player who committed.

I think the idea that outstanding young men "who want to be Buckeyes" will get us to the NC ahead of outstanding athletes who are conflicted as to where they want to go betrays a great deal of naivete. I wish Adam great success, and I welcome him to The Ohio State University. He'll be a credit to the Buckeyes in many ways, I have no doubt. But I don't necessarily wish for a team comprising primarily his athletic peers.

Sorry if I seem a bit mercenary here, but this is Big Time College Football. Win big or else is the name of this game. I don't see evidence in this recruiting class that we're headed in that direction.

Step away from the recruiting rankings... One 5'9, 185, 4.5 all-district son of a legend does not spell the end of Tressel's dynasty in a Big Time conference :roll2:

The team needs contributors on special teams too.

If Griffin contributes on special teams like another legacy, Shaun Lane, I'd say he would have earned his scholarship.

Heaven knows this team could use some improvement on kick and punt coverage. I hope he can make an impact there at least.

1) Bucknuts $ - Griffin: The Newest Buckeye
By Steve Helwagen
Posted Feb 11, 2010

Griffin had offers to the service academies & Eastern Illinois but he held off on signing while he considered walking on at OSU... He knows his Dads accomplishments get him nothing & he has to earn respect from his teammates & coaches on the practice field... Getting this opportunity is a dream come true & he can't wait to report...

Griffin A Fine Addition To The Buckeyes

...
Just watch the tape on Griffin and you'll see a quick, nimble back who could play slot receiver or even bulk up and switch to a nickelback at OSU. Yes, OSU is overwhelmed at running back, but that's just the case right now. Through natural attrition and position switches that may change.

Also, this is the type of kid you want on your team. He's a determined, focused athlete -- check him out on the basketball court and you'll see it. He's a academic scholar and from a Buckeye family--it makes sense that Adam earned this opportunity.
