USC posters are saying Holmes' girlfriend has accepted a scholarship to run track at USC, FWIW.

Stuff like this makes me hate recruiting. Normally I wouldn't even bother posting something like that but I feel obligated to when we are about 24 hours away.

If Holmes is out [and Lattimore is gone, as I suspect he is] then I think you see Sheffield in this class. Not a bad consolation.

Sheffield would be more ready to start right away. Also, if he balls out and goes pro in a year , they just gained a much needed spot for the 2018 class which will again be tight on spots.

I stand with @wadc45 (in regards to not liking recruiting news like this.) Also, I don't put a whole lot of stock in to the girlfriend accepting a scholarship to USC thing. Did all of our other commits' girlfriends all get accepted to OSU? Where is Okudah's girlfriend going? Browning? Martell? Lindsay? I could go on. Do they not have girlfriends? That is doubtful.

Good for Holmes' girlfriend on getting a scholarship to USC but he needs to take a whole lot more in to consideration than that. Almost all of these guys find new girlfriends in college and almost all of them are happy to do so. Not many of them, I would assume, stay with whatever girlfriend they had in high school all the way through college.

How many people on this board went to the same college as their high school girlfriend/boyfriend? How many chose where they went to college based on that? On the other hand, how many here MET their future wife/husband in college? How many met their future wife/husband somewhere outside of high school OR college. I rest my case.

USC surging like this is super odd considering they weren't even a player until now. It'd be one thing if Holmes was leaning UCLA, as that's where many thought he was going before. If a couple of reliable insiders hadn't flipped their CBs to USC, I would have written the whole thing off as an elaborate smoke screen.

Go to UCLA: upset dad
Go to USC: upset mom
Might as well do what YOU want and go to OSU. Gonna have an upset parent no matter what but it's YOUR decision.

One of these schools is putting DBs in the NFL in high draft slots. The other two? Nope.

I have always liked Holmes as much or more than any other prospect in this class, both as a player and a person (interviewee). His showing at FNL (only guy able to cover Lindsey) only strengthened that sentiment. I just have never believed that he would come here. So if he chooses to go elsewhere, I personally won't be disappointed or surprised at all.

I would love to be wrong.

Maybe so but I stand by my statement (minus the "needs" part.) If he chooses to go somewhere other than OSU, fine. But that hopefully is based on education, coaching and relationships, comfort level, life after football. Choosing to go somewhere because your girlfriend is going there? I'd tell my own kid that it isn't the smartest move.
