Dad teaches Daughter lesson after Facebook Rant

You obviously either: 1.) are not a father, or 2.) let your kids do what the [censored] they want.
You obviously don't have a fucking clue.

Yes, I'm a father.

I wasn't draconian, but my kid didn't get away with shit.

When I disciplined my kid, even if she had been incredibly disrespectful (and that was very infrequent), I didn't wave a flag around the neighborhood advertising the fact. Discipline was administered in private, as it should be. Embarrassing your kid in front of the world is stupid, regardless of the reason.

This man is a dick. His actions are unlikely to result in the behavioral changes that he wants. And given his behavior on this YouTube excerpt, I'm not particularly surprised that he's reared a snotty, disrespectful brat.

If you think it is lacking character to try and teach your children not to be assholes on the internet and that actions have consequences, then I guess there are plenty of us parents that lack character in your eyes.
Bull[Mark May] again. It is critical to teach your kids to be respectful; it is critical to teach them to be careful what they post on their Facebook pages; it is critical to teach them that actions have consequences. I have not said anything remotely resembling the opposite -- in fact, the kid needed to be disciplined HARD. But disciplining her in this fashion is stupid and likely counterproductive.

Other than giving a bunch of people a vicarious thrill in cheering this moron's actions, I doubt he's done much to improve his relationship with his daughter.

An your kid didn't disrespect you on a medium which is accessible by one-sixth of the population of the entire fucking planet. What he did was hardly "Draconian". We he did was, as mentioned by someone else earlier, give her a tast of her own medicine. Oh, he did it it a calm manner without resorting to obsceneties like the kid did.

Seems to me the failure here happened long before this video was ever made, before daughter found out the internet existed. If your child doesn't have the principles inside them that you wish to instill, then either 1) you did a bad job as a parent or 2) the child is just incorrigible. Either way, doubt this video is going to fix the behavior the guy wants to fix.

Although I must say, this does seem something like the kind of self-serving nonsense you'd expect to see from a hoax. I'm not convinced this was real.

Something on the internet might not be real?

To add to the conversation somewhat, dealing with kids these days in the age of the internet and the even newer age of social media has to be an absolute bitch.

It is something I am very strongly not looking forward to.

Even if it is a hoax, it will likely discourage a shit-ton of punk kids watching this video from pulling the shit that the supposed daughter supposedly did. Mission accomplished.

OK, in my usual role as BP iconoclast, let me be the first to say that this guy is a dick.
you simply don't have enough information to claim that this guy is a "dick." we also don't have enough information to claim that this guy showed good parenting. the reality of the situation is that the guy likely falls somewhere in the middle, hedging toward one side.
