Pros or not at all in my opinion.

Where do you go after coaching at OSU for a decade? OSU coaches don't go to Michigan and the only other programs on an equal footing stature wise in the college football world - ND, Bama, USC and Texas - are all set on coaches for the time being. I suppose Kiffian flaming out spectacularly over the next couple of years at USC is a possibility so you might say him ending up there is a remote possibility.

He didn't say he was going to coach again in Columbus, he said he wanted Tressel to be able to retire peacefully in Columbus.

In case you decide to misread anyone else's posts, I'll sum it up for you:

HE IS NOT GOING TO COACH AGAIN!

1) I didn't misread, but stowfan's wish of Tressel retiring with dignity seem already ruined by NCAA, ESPN, SI, Ray Small, TP, and whoever else out there with a keyboard.

2) Not wanting him to coach again is different than "HE IS NOT GOING TO COACH AGAIN"

I didn't say that he will coach again, but by coaching again he'll be able to change his legacy.

No, it really hasn't. Only people like you will take the word of the press and jilted players as the end all be all about Jim Tressel. The rest of us will see this as one small black mark on an otherwise great career of a good man.

2) Not wanting him to coach again is different than "HE IS NOT GOING TO COACH AGAIN"
I guess you can pick and choose who you quote, but others have pretty much stated the same thing, and those statements can be backed up by the fact that Tressel himself has stated as much before. But, go ahead and turn a deaf ear, it is your right to do so.

I didn't say that he will coach again, but by coaching again he'll be able to change his legacy.
What? Change his legacy? The man has one of the best winning percentages as the head coach of Ohio State football, has won NCs on two levels of college football, greatly increased the poor graduation rate of Ohio State football players, has done countless acts of philanthropy, etc. Again, he was much more than a football coach, and his legacy does not need to be changed.

Well quoting him and responding with that doesn't make sense, even with those explanations. He's definitely not coaching again in Columbus.

Because for him to able to retire with dignity, he would have to coach again to tip the scale from the weight of all the negativity out there. I agree that he's not coaching again in Columbus nor the BT (unless he becomes the HC of a team that eventually get invitation when the BT expands).

Where do you think Paterno will coach after he leaves PSU?

It's very unfortunate that things are ending badly for him at OSU. Although he's going to have to shoulder some blame for this disaster, it can't be all his fault. I don't know what really happened but I'm sure he's going to learn dearly from this mistake. Sooner or later, he's going to want to redeem himself and start coaching again.

This is a long shot but I want him to end up at Penn State. JoePa can't really hang on for that much longer and I honestly thought that Tressel would end up staying at OSU for a long time just like JoePa at PSU (before all this yahoo stuff). It's a long shot because Tressel probably has too much respect for OSU to coach again in the BT. If I'm the AD at PSU I would give this a very thorough consideration. The chance of Tressel making another mistake like this would be nil and he already proved that he can coach. PSU would be spared a painful rebuilding period (like Michigan perhaps) if they can bring him in.

What would you think if he ends up at PSU?

Where would you like him to end up?

txp135;1932688; said:
That could be, but it will probably because he doesn't want to start at a small school again and work his way up. I don't think he will leave the game like this if he gets the chance to redeem himself. He might've retired already if there weren't a couple NCs that slipped right through his fingers. If he wanted to hang it up, he would've bolt when he smelled trouble (just like PC from USC). There was no sense in trying to hang around to draw more NCAA fire. I think that if Ohio State nation is okay with him returning to coaching else where, he will.

Unless you line up a bunch of college kids in front of the firing squad, I doubt he will have enough players to coach where he's going next. But you'd never know... very few (if any) thought that Tressel would leave OSU sooner than Paterno leaving PSU, but here we are. I didn't think that Paterno would coach for this long, it wouldn't surprise me if he keels over and die during the Alabama game nor see him there for another 5 yr.
