One of my co-workers was comparing the populations of Italy (60M people, hard hit) and Japan (120M, virtually unaffected). The population distribution across age-groups is eerily similar...virtual mirrors of each other. Currently Italy has 3,400 COVID-19 deaths while Japan has a grand total of 32 deaths. This means that since Japan has double the population of Italy yet only 1/100 the number of COVID-19 deaths, Japan's death COVID-19 death rate is 0.5% that of Italy's. During our discussion of why there would be such a huge disparity, we came to several conclusions:
1. Difference in social norms:
a) Japanese do not touch each other when greeting--they bow from a distance, while Italians have high school-level petting when greeting each other
b) Japanese have all been wearing masks since day one, while Italians haven't (as far as we know)
2. Immediate reaction. Japan was on it from day one, while Italy took a while to take he threat seriously
This suggests that the spread of the virus in Italy is less about the potency of the virus and more about general personal sanitation. Also, Japan looks like they just may have leveled of in their infection rate:

Japanese people have healthy distaste for China and the Chinese. They also have a pretty strict immigration policy. My daughter who lives there said when this happened Japanese people avoided anything China.I thought we weren't supposed to say anything about it being a Chinese thing, you wasist bastard.

I was trying to inform diplomatically less I am branded Chinaphobic. The distaste thing can pretty much be said for every single nation that borders China. Don't get Charlie started on the subject.
called this a couple weeks ago. putting "flushable" on the packaging of butt wipes is allowed because they technically can go down the toilet when you flush them. they're flushable the same way legos are. it doesn't mean they're supposed to go down there.Stupidity has no bottom.. is this what happens when you (San Fran) dodge poop on your sidewalks for too long?
Wipes are found in numerous drainage waterways in SF..
Coronavirus Update: Disinfecting Wipes Being Flushed Down Toilets Causing Major Pipe Problems
Disease deaths per day worldwide:
Seasonal flu: 1027
Pneumonia: 2216
Tuberculosis: 3014
Covid-19: 56
Is that US or worldwide? In the last couple days it's risen by:
3/18: +973 deaths
3/17: +817 deaths
3/16: +642 deaths
3/15: +686 deaths
3/14: +404 deaths
3/13: +448 deaths
So in 5 days the death rate has more than doubled.
And this is with everything shut down.
Project this out 3 months of allowing it to spread unmitigated, and tell me how it goes.
Out of TP? Try jumping in the shower for a cleanup just like if your dog came home covered in ufo's! I've done this more than once(don't ask).
