Sounds like there’s some promising things coming out of France regarding a malaria drug that has been around for a long time being a potential cure or at least highly effective in eliminating the virus in a large percentage of those treated. Hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine apparently have been tested by some docs in France as well as China but the results from China are being held by their government.

Crossing fingers this gets it done.

Have seen a couple of references to this and even one article suggesting that a large pharma (I believe it may be Bayer) may be ramping up production and donating because the costs for chloroquine are very low.

My view is we have a choice: Go the Hubei way and submit to authoritarian control where anyone that tries to escape lockdown gets a fishnet over the head and wrangled into a black van, or go the S Korea way and test and trace and democracy lives on.

Either one works. What clearly doesn’t work is the Italian way, which was to shrug it off and think it couldn’t get that bad.

My hope is we go shelter in place for three weeks max, give the health care system and our doctors and nurses a fighting chance, then life resumes to some semblance of a more-anxious normal from mid-April through early fall, when average temps are above 50 and the virus goes dormant (if it does). Then, researchers have time to solve the pending crisis that will arise as we punt this problem to October for the 2020-2021 flu season.

If I’ve learned anything in the past 20 years, it’s that the punt is the most important play in football, and might be the winning strategy here in what is going to be an ugly field position game.

They also take A LOT of deserved shit and undeserved shit from a lot of different directions and that, over time, makes many of them worse people. I suspect that like cops a lot of them come in with noble intentions and then just get burnt out and cynical based on what they deal with. TLDR: Point is just that like people who say that those who can't do teach, should step into a classroom for a week and see how it goes, those who categorically hate all politicians probably don't get how shitty a job it really is, again, at least at the state and local levels.

If it's such a shitty job, why do they stay doing it for 40 years, even after they've, quite dubiously, amassed millions and millions of dollars on an upper middle class income?

You probably have seen adds for various "silver" cures for Covid-19. Beware! They are all just quackery. I have used colloidal silver for years and it is only good for minor belly aches and bowl disturbances. It's use history goes back in time to when a silver coin was dropped into your well to kill the various bacteria and small "bugs" living in ground water. I take a small bottle with me when I travel.

Now is the time to remind everyone that American civilians own more guns than all the military and police forces in the world COMBINED.

If this goes on for too long, it will be a freaking bloodbath.

My hope as well, i think mid April is super optimistic.
