Just to be clear: I'm not promoting isolation or "living like a hermit".
From my ignorant position, those with weakened immune systems have had to be mindful of their environments for some time and take the actions that they feel are necessary to try to mitigate risk.
The next concentric circle of people in their life should also be mindful of that.
I just don't know that what the pragmatic basis would be for everyone to take steps based on that denominator.
So, thanks for answering.
Yeah my mom was diagnosed with Cancer mid pandemic last year. Which was difficult. I'm 10 and half hours away and with the pandemic I couldn't be there for surgery. That was difficult we had to check with her doctors when a good time would be during chemo. She started ordering all her groceries grocery pickup etc.. but she still had to make doctors/hospital visits weekly to daily.

In short like Jax said I think most anti-vax are idiots. Especially the magnetic koooks but I understand that forcing people there isn't the way either unfortunately outside of specific circumstances and forcing medical is a slippery slope.

However I have no sympathy for the anti-maskers. Not one. It's no different to me then no shirt no shoes no service and how many people actually complain about that.

And on top of that, it would be nice to get some real data on just how dangerous this has been, is, and will most likely be in the future.
As the dialogue appears to be slowly moving from pandemic to endemic, there needs to be a recalibration on what we're going to do from here on out.
I think you guys are really overlooking the brilliance of the Pedro post.

What if I was a pro-masker until the CDC said to remove them, then Chicago hosted a million kids for an outdoor music free for all, and low and behold, the next day they have another mask mandate? Fuck them six ways to Sunday!

Fuck the kids or fuck the CDC? Sorry, I didn’t follow this one well.

I don't think its a "conspiracy" to question Big Pharma's intentions in all of this. They are making a shit ton of money so of course they are going to push as many boosters as they can get away with. Even if they might not be completely necessary.

The vaccination rates here in China are not very high…

May I ask where your info come from? see several sites that claim that the chinese vaccination rate is high:
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...ther-global-capitals-in-vaccinating-residents

Of course, with China, it is hard to trust any data at all. And of course, there are reports that the chinese vaccines do not work well at all.

I am not sure how to handicap the odds of delta getting out of control there.

They do "seem" to have been effective so far in strong arm tactics to fight covid, but I don't know if that will work as well against delta.

When I hear “Chinese Vaccine “ I picture an AK47 round.

Is that wrong of me?

My info comes from China… I live here.

Western media accounts are as problematic as “official” Chinese media. Everyone has an axe to grind and an agenda to uphold.

The actual vaccination rates vary anywhere from 100%, for example, at state-owned companies and government arms, to something around 60% in pockets among the general population in the big cities (after “outbreaks”), to maybe (maybe) less than 30% in the rural areas.

China is, in no way or by any real socio-political measure homogeneous and monolithic… it’s like trying to cluster everyone in North America or the US or the West Coast or California or New York or Texas - you get the idea - together.

Of course, with China, it is hard to trust any data at all. And of course, there are reports that the chinese vaccines do not work well at all.
I guess we can say the same thing, to a broad extent, about data about propagation rates and efficacy in the US, for example. Looking from the outside in, it seems to largely depend (kind of facetiously), on which political party one belongs to and which “news” channel is playing in the background in someone’s home.

I am not sure how to handicap the odds of delta getting out of control there.

The authorities here definitely react super-quickly and lock everything down. The latest outbreak in Nanjing was, by published numbers, bigger than the original outbreak in Wuhan. Take that for what it’s worth, but at least that’s as much of an apples to apples comparison we might be able make in terms of how “out of control” things have gotten or can get.

I can say that at least there’s no big public backlash or outcry - none which gets any traction, anyway - when we are told to stay in our homes until testing and containment measures have been implemented. Seems to me that in the west, folks prefer to make individual decisions which may or may not fit into a larger societal scheme… not that there’s anything wrong with that.
