Yet another iconic Waikiki business has permanently closed due to Ige's lockdown. Moose McGillycuddy's in Waikiki shut down after 40 years of business, and was one of the area's most popular night spots for the under-30 crowd.

Athens City Schools not opening for the Fall. All will be on-line. Revaluation in Nov.

The single parent, work-at-home with a 6 yr old, challenge continues.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair.

Or something like that.

Two Texas counties are stacking the dead bodies in refrigerated trucks now since their morgues are full. Arizona, Florida and maybe Georgia will most likely follow in the coming days.

Now, while the mortality rate isn't what it was at the beginning in New York due to learning from their mistakes (nursing homes!), increasing science about treatment (prone position, remdesivir etc) and larger infection percentage among the young, anyone who didn't foresee a hard spike in ICU admissions and deaths two-three weeks ago was being willfully obtuse.

I spent quite a bit of time face down in that place when I fit the demographic.

Damn shame.

The states that spiked, came down, then have new cases spiking again over the last 4+ weeks are NOT seeing that spike in deaths. I’ve only spot checked some of the key states, but it seems like the only ones seeing death spikes are just now going through their first real wave of it being widespread. Look at the Michigan new cases vs deaths chart, and then look at Texas. That doesn’t do anything to negate the dumb decisions being made in Texas, its just a different conversation in other parts of the country.

T's & P's my friend
The Lil Woof's are 5, 3, and 8 months. My wife and I are both home and we find ourselves doing a surprising amount of work after 7:30pm bed time. This has not been fun at all.

Entertaining the idea of keeping the 5 year old out of K for a year? Ours turned 5 a few days ago, supposed to start on 8/25. They haven't announced what school will look like, but if it's like the other districts near by, it'll be a mixture of home/in person with a mask.

As someone with a summer birthday that started school shortly after turning 5 I would wait till next year. For me it was more more an issue of athletics and how it would have been better to start HS a year later and not be one of the youngest guys in my grade. Both of my kids are fall b-days so we didn't have to make a decision, but I can see a big difference with the kids sports between the kids with summer b-days and fall/winter b-days that are 6-12 months older.

My son was in K last year and if there's any chance that they will be remote learning DO NOT start school this year. My wife almost lost her mind trying to get my son to do his school work. The 3rd grader was a pain in the ass, but my son almost got murdered on a daily basis.

Mid summer turned 5?

Dang that's barely a hold out.

you know your kid, but generically, if its a boy, to me I would be a strong lean to wait a year pandemic or not.

Either way for me (with the benefit of hindsight) I would do what I could to spare what would be a younger Kindergartener this weirdness. My kid had an April bday, so wasn't really an option, but she's only about 45 days older than the start of kids that did get to wait another school year... And for her, by about the 4th grade I wish we had that option. Now, going into 9th grade, I realize the 1-4 grade was just a tough time and its all good. You can't look into their brains and know what they're ready to consume. Thankfully she was socially and emotionally mature enough that the early learning struggles are just a blip in the past.

Obviously I have no idea what your personal situation is, and I dont have to live with the ramifications of these stupid opinions.

I think I was similar. By the time I got to middle school I was fine, but K-6 was interesting. We had a family friend put their almost 5 year old in K last year (really stupid) and ended up pulling her out of school 2 weeks before the end of the school year because she was way behind and the school wouldn't hold her back. She was behind before the lockdown, but they couldn't get her to do anything at home. Since she was young they could pull her out and re-enroll for K next year.

The sports thing is a thing. US Soccer switched the age groups from aligning with the school year to birth year, and my kid went from youngest 20% to oldest third (theoretically) over the summer. We enjoyed that for a brief period.and then her club moved her up an age group and was the youngest kid again. Obviously starting HS she's younger, but its more like staying in the same age group for her.

Well, since I think I know what school system you grew up in, I'm pretty sure you didn't get the constant intervention mine did too... Though, I dunno how much that helped compared to her being ready.

US Soccer did, but my town said fuck that we're sticking with grade. My daughter's travel soccer team last year was in 2010 and they only had 3 girls on the team that were born in 2010. The rest were 2011. My giant daughter was the only one that could match the size of most of the teams we played, but she was probably nearly a year younger than that the tall girls on the other teams.

Year before last my kid was an '06 on an ''04 team (and some vestigial 04 kids from the age switch). Which is really '05 in the fall because of aged locked 8th graders, they put them all together. Once the spring rolled around... Woo wee there were some grown ass women all of the sudden. Now my kid is always up for a little Beethoven and ultra violence, but the.polite kids had some trouble.
