I hope your test results turn out well all around.

As for football, what Division III and the Ivy League do is barely relevant to the big boys. With hundreds of millions of TV dollars on the line for each Power Five conference, the bar for not playing is going to be noticeably higher.
Found out today the two schools that dropped are only in the conference for football purposes, Case Western and Carnegie Mellon. The other conference they participate in for all other sports canceled all of their sports so each decided to cancel football too.

My concern is the liability some of these schools are going to fear including the Power 5. I agree there is a ton of money on the line, but the fear of one law suit may be too much for some to risk. It will be a wait and see but each day that passes seems to present new and different challenges.

Are those percentages good enough when compared to the rest of the world?
I don't know...you tell me. Considering there are many parts of the world that aren't even being tested--and thus the infection rate is unknown--probably not all that bad. Currently, not even 1% (0.97% to be exact) of the total US population has tested positive. The only reason I chose those three states was in reply to the Fearmonger-In-Chief's response to Jake's post.

I don't know either. I see graphs showing how ridiculously behind the rest of the world we are.....then I see figures on here that shows "only" 1% of the population has tested positive.

I see graphs being presented as proof of anything that people want them to be proof of.

What I don't see is anyone changing their mind since this whole thing started (which is pretty normal for how we humans do things).

I do enjoy a Milli vs Taos running battle thread though. Well worth the annual subscription fee.

That's what I'm saying. 0.97% infected seems excellent outside of context. But what must those other countries be at if we're the laughing stock of the COVID response world? 0.097%?

Not to say that only one side is lacking context, either. Maybe the graphs I'm seeing are showing high numbers because we're just bigger than (random country generator) Japan. Duh....we're going to have a lot more cases than a tiny country.

I'm not convinced that a comparative measure across countries is much of a valid measuring stick given the lack of consistencies in reporting. Frankly, there's questionable reporting consistency going on across states let alone countries that have, perhaps, motivations to be less forthcoming with information.

Your question, however, is a good one. Is ~1% infection rate acceptable? And the mortality rate of that 1%?

To be honest, I think that a best case scenario is an infection rate of 100% and a near zero mortality rate (read: common cold). I doubt that we'll get there, but that would be an ideal scenario in my mind.

Well. I'm going to have to talk to Mili about an up-charge for our service. We ain't making enough for our time. All those graphs cost money you know. And then there is all the research we do.

I hear you but who has decided we are the laughing stock of the COVID response world? Taos? Mainstream media?

They want us to be seen that way because they have a hatred of Trump and thus the deluge of "facts" from taos supporting his position and the response from those sick of hearing it.

At least that's my .02 summary of this particular thread.

I mean......most countries who don't tout themselves as the greatest in the world have pretty much figured it out. Then we have 10 videos per day showing fucking morons fighting with a cashier because they were told to wear a mask. I swear if there's a zombie outbreak, we'll have protests from these people fighting for their right to get bitten because Murica is a free country.

It is not at all clear how to compare different countries with respect to COVID-19 response. To say that they all have different data gathering and record-keeping practices is an understatement. Further, it is not really all that meaningful to talk about the United States response; the response has been like most things in our federal system, very state dependent and therefore very uneven. Actions of State and local governments have had far more impact on people's lives than the folks in DC. And as with everything else, people's own behavior has had and will continue to have by far the biggest impact on their lives. So bring on the zombies... A little bit of natural selection might do this country some good.

Australia is getting ready to go into lockdown, Spain is a freaking train wreck. Sweden has it problems. Watch a different channel other than CNN. We are not much different than anywhere else for the most part, depending on weather etc. We are testing at a higher rate regardless of what the left wants you to believe. More tests equal more cases. Pretty simple. I could have driven twenty minutes to get tested at no less than 10 locations despite the left screaming "we need more testing".

My antibody test came back negative today. Nasal swab will be back tomorrow.
