Do you think it's good news that there is now some evidence that his virus, which seems to cause substantially worse symptoms in many people than a cold, and for which we do not yet have vaccines, like the flu, can be acquired repeatedly? It would seem to kind of put a damper on hopes that herd immunity will solve all of our problems, don't you think?

its downright terrifying, tbh. hopefully the 2nd time being infected the affects are much less than the 1st. but this sucks if antibodies are useless. makes a vaccine impossible, doesn’t it??

I don't know about that. Just too ignorant on the subject matter. Regardless, getting it more than once seems like a bummer (except for the fact that it means it didn't kill your the first time).
Severely threatens the simplicity of putting this behind us, but if we can learn how it behaves, and learn to treat it, we may be able to heal without fully eliminating it.

All I'm saying is that this should not come as a big surprise, as none of the previous six variations of coronavirus (229E, NL63, OC43, HKU1, MERS, SARS) have yet to have a vaccine developed, and thus people are subject to re-infection. Hell, we have had flu vaccines out the ass for decades and yet the flu just keeps mutating and infecting people.

If "experts" think we can simply wait this out by hoping either 1) people simply quit getting the virus and thus no one else dies, or 2) everyone eventually gets it and then no one ever gets it again, we are all properly fucked.

This is an actual news story with an actual quote in it....

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The Dayton City Commission passed an ordinance Wednesday that prohibits the concealment of one’s identity in public in some instances.

The ordinance will make wearing a mask in public while committing a crime or to intimidate another person illegal.

Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley said the legislation would be introduced when the group announced its intention to rally in Dayton. “It’s something that we learned from another city,” Whaley said March 2. Whaley continued, “The ordinance would make it illegal to wear a mask when committing a crime or reasonably causing fear in other people.”

They’re actually testing a promising MERS vaccine now, it’s just been buried by COVID. They’ve also revitalized a SASrS vaccine program that was promising at the time but shelved.

Breaking: Oxford Vaccine Protects Monkeys

A single dose of a vaccine being developed by Oxford University in England caused rhesus macaque monkeys to develop antibodies to coronavirus within 28 days.

The vaccine, called ChAdOx1, also appears to have prevented pneumonia and lung inflammatory disease when the animals were exposed to SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.

The Oxford vaccine is based on a vaccine platform researchers at the university’s Jenner Institute adapted for SARS-CoV-2.

During the pandemic, Detroit saw a fourfold increase in the number of home deaths. NYC saw a sixfold increase. If you're showing symptoms people, don't sit home and think it's just like a cold and you're tough enough to beat it. Go see a doctor and get tested. Not every one of these additional deaths is likely to have been a result of COVID, but if you think that few or none were, you're being willfully ignorant.

Research is driven by money. If there is no immediate financial benefit to doing the research then the money dries up.
