Coronavirus (COVID-19) is too exciting for adults to discuss (CLOSED)

Anyone else find an ugly irony in that a very large percentage of the death count from Covid, here and abroad, is among the population that are on permanent "stay at home" orders?

Well it won't be those geniuses with the masks on.

LET US GIT BACK TO OUR JERBS CUZ THE VIRUS IS A HOAX! Also.....I'mma wear this mask fer safety.

And I love the irony that it's the younger, healthier looking ones in the masks--though I'm not sure those are the full blown N95 that protect you as much as others around you. It's the guys not wearing masks in their sixties, morbidly obese and I'm sure some lifetime smokers and at least one case of diabetes among them. Those guys are literally dead men walking if they get it.

No. The orders tend to be issued in response to a place already being hit hard or showing evidence of being about to be hit hard and in places with greater population density. Florida is interesting though. Unless they're under reporting, I would expect worse outcomes there: It may be that higher temperatures reduce how much virus survives or somehow weaken its ability to reproduce as quickly as it otherwise does.

With no actual knowledge whatsoever, I strongly suspect that how heavy one's initial exposure is makes a big difference in severity and outcome.

I read what he's saying as those in care facilities. I haven't seen a US number, but in Europe, nursing homes are half the deaths. (this isn't the original story I read and I just skimmed here so if there's some kind of key detail I'm misrepresenting, sorry... https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...hs-happen-in-care-homes-data-from-eu-suggests)

Yes, correct, and the prisons as well. In other words, get the fuck outside and be healthy. Staying indoors is counter to everything we know about staying well.

Ah, I didn't understand what you were saying. I think there's a pretty big difference between staying indoors at home without infected people being with you and staying indoors in an institution in close quarters with lots of other people, on or more of whom will inevitably get it. It seems very clear that close and sustained proximity to those with it is the single biggest factor in transmission, and I strongly suspect that it's also a big factor in severity.

People in nursing homes die because that's what they're there to do: But this accelerates it quite a bit. That said, I've been walking about ten miles a day, so I agree that fresh air is generally a good thing although when I get this, it will likely be from a passing cyclist.

Yep. Fortunately Hawaii hasn't gone full retard yet on people going outside. I've rode my bike nearly every day the last week and each I do I see dozens of people out walking/jogging (and a few riding), with rare exception either single or in pairs...zero threat to anyone else.
