You laugh, but my sister has Lupus, and there's a real chance that there will be shortages of the real thing which is used for Lupus.

I'm only laughing at the people blaming Trump because some fuckstick drank aquarium cleaner.

See, we can bring back Tiki drinks.

All that said, I certainly don't want a moronic run on this stuff by otherwise healthy people.

I dunno if 220 million doses is a lot or not, but it seems like as long as it doesn't get sold to people who have no need of it, it appears that aggressive measures are being taken to meet demand...

Inadvertently, it might be better that Trump raised the issue because if you look at the anecdotal stuff domestically, there was gonna be a run by private physicians on it as the profile grew.

I’m guessing there are more than a few pharmaceutical companies in the US that can manufacture more if they’re not already...

'Opening up' the economy in a few weeks will only make this thing worse and last longer. Telling people it's ok to go back out isn't going to lead to a sudden employment surge, especially when most businesses are going to be playing this very cautiously and getting mixed signals from governors.

The more people try to rush this, the worse it will be. There is no good answer. The only hope is that in a month or two, most states will have experienced a peak in cases and deaths and we can cautiously start to ease our way back into social distancing instead of a shutdown. In the meanwhile, people need to be getting checks to cover for unemployment so the bottom doesn't fall out of the economy.

Hospital capacity and the American economy are indeed mutually exclusive. Truckers can truck, farmers can farm, etc., regardless if a hospital ward is full or empty. My ability to go to work, sit down for eight hours and code, and then go home is 100% unaffected by the situation at the local hospital.

So much for the "lockdown" in the UK as London's mayor pulls a Wile E. Coyote. :bonk:

The problem with London is that it's impossible to get around without the trains. We had to take a piece of hardware from our office downtown to our CoLo on the north side so we called an Uber around 10am and it took us over an hour to get there. If we just had to make the trip without the equipment we'd be looking at a 30 minute tube ride and a 10 min walk. I guess shutting down the tube would be one way to get people to stay in their houses since there isn't any other way to get around for most people. I was surprised how many people lived far out of town and rode the train for an hour and a half to get to work every day.

truckers can’t truck if there’s nothing coming in from China/Mexico/SE asian because manufacturing is shut down there.
Farmer can Farm ... haven’t heard of them being under some “dont farm rule”.
Your ability to write code is independent of your ability to go to work, it is dependent on your work restrictions being Military and all.

and yeah that has nothing to do with the local Hospital but what happens you (or a loved one heaven forbid) get into a car/bike accident while on the way to work, hit by a semi and you need an ICU bed. Then you would probably care a whole helva lot about the situation at the local hospitals... Maybe I’m wrong
