Cook, Conley, and Oden

I doubt any team could manage that, no matter how hard they tried..
But if they did, I'd love them forever.

Forever.
Timberwolves. Trade Garnett, they want to anyhow they just can't justify it with him being the only reason to go to a T-wolves game. This of course would mean they would have to pull the upset and win the lottery.

Telfair's just a dumbass that thinks he needs to carry a gun around with him everywhere he goes. I cant see the Celtics pulling a second pick to get Conley along with Oden but it would be pretty cool.

Oden, Conley leave a legacy
Jim Naveau | [email protected] - 04.27.2007
A few days before Ohio State?s men?s basketball team went to Atlanta to play in the Final Four, Thad Matta recalled his first trip to that event.
He was a young assistant coach. He didn?t have great seats. And he was in a budget hotel where his room door opened into the parking lot.
Needless to say, his accommodations were better this year. So were his players.
But the departure of three of those players for the NBA in the last week has shaken Ohio State fans.
A certain segment of Buckeye believers seems to have been blindsided when freshmen Greg Oden (always was one and done), Mike Conley Jr. (played his way into the first round) and Daequan Cook (enjoy Europe) made themselves eligible for the NBA draft.
Some fans are even questioning Matta?s recruiting philosophy following the abrupt departure of 60 percent of the so-called ?Thad Five? just a year after they arrived in Columbus.

Lottery winner may double up

Oden is grand prize in Tuesday drawing, but Conley is wild card

Published May 21, 2007

Tuesday is Powerball day in the NBA, the NBA draft lottery, the seventh game of the losers' championship.

And it's more exciting than last year, when the No. 1 overall pick was Andrea Bargnani, or the year before when it was Andrew Bogut. They're nice players, but hardly ones to turn around a franchise, promise a future and excite the ticket-buying public.

There has been some talk that the team that drafts Oden will be told he wants to play with point guard Mike Conley Jr., his lifelong friend and floor leader. And I believe it. It's hardly unusual; Kobe Bryant dictated his way to Los Angeles out of the draft. Conley's dad is representing his son and Oden, and Conley the player is no slouch. In fact, many teams rate him the draft's best point guard. The two most difficult positions to fill are center and point guard. With those, you can begin building a team.

If Atlanta could somehow trade up to get Oden, right now they're 3rd, they then have the #11 pick and could get Mike Conley as well. They would have a pretty good nucleus with Joe Johnson, Conley and Oden. I could watch the Hawks proudly again! C'mon Nique pull that one off!!!!

nice thoughts, but portland ain't trading out of their spot (especially out of the top two spots). conley won't be around for the eleventh pick either.

No way in hell I would want to go to Portland. If Greg were a primadonna ballplayer he could get Conley to "force the issue." People usually hate those players for about 6 months to a year when they force an organization not to draft them but once they get into the system they fit in best with and start to produce, people quickly forget all of that. Completely moot point here though as Greg and Mr. Conley are more than likely too honest to do that.

Oden, Conley get 1st taste of living in fast lane

By Michael Rothstein

The Journal Gazette

Associated Press
Former Ohio State player Greg Oden, signing an autograph, experienced his first Indianapolis 500 on Sunday.

INDIANAPOLIS ? They used to stay at home this weekend, avoiding the traffic and the insanity of the Indianapolis 500 race weekend.
Mike Conley Jr. didn?t even know where the Indianapolis Motor Speedway was. His teammate, Greg Oden, avoided it.
But now, a month away from becoming millionaires and potential top picks in the NBA draft, Oden and Conley are here and almost giddy.
?I didn?t try to mess with it,? Oden said. ?But it?s crazy and now I?m here and learning a lot and I?m excited.?

Not to mention that any chance Atlanta has of moving up would also have to include that #11 pick, so the thought likely becomes moot anyhow.

Just heard Mike DeCourcy of the Sporting News on the radio (1530 Cincy) and he had some strong words about Cook and Conley. He said Cook in the draft is a "joke" and Conley is "what is broken with the system." He explained that it is his belief that Cook appears to be looking to get paid for his potential which he will never live up to (doesn't think he has the work ethic). He doesn't think Conely is ready and that he explained that entering the draft wasn't even on his mind until he started showing up in mocks. He would have liked to have seen Conley develop his game and said he "might" be able to be a player in the watered down current NBA.

Don't shoot the messenger, just posting what I heard and the link to his page so you can tell him what you think.

Conley has the ability to become a player in the NBA....it will probably take some time, which everyone realizes. If Conley gets limited minutes next year I don't think anyone would be shocked but how's the kid supposed to turn down lottery pick status and millions of dollars? I understand the point this guy was trying to make though, if Lewis doesn't hit that shot against Xavier to save our season, I believe Conley, Cook, and Oden all return. Oden's decesion was made easy after his domination in the championship, and Conley had some amazing games throughout the tourney.

I think Mike DeCourcey is a very knowledgeable and smart guy. One who got this one wrong -- Conley HAD to leave (he'll be the best point in the NBA within 5 years), and Cook now looks like a 1st-rounder again, based on CBS Sportsline reports.
