CONFIRMED: PSU football players in trouble

What a slap on the wrist - no summer school for you guys, but we'll make an exception to normal expulsion procedures, and let you back in time for the start of practice.

The four players who were expelled for the second summer semester -- Scirrotto, Sargeant, defensive tackle Christopher Baker and linebacker Jerome Hayes -- were told they would be allowed to return to campus Aug. 6 for preseason workouts, sources said. Normally, expelled students would not be allowed on campus until the expulsion ends, in this case on Aug. 17.

I guess you don't do something "crazy" to the football program if it makes your university millions of dollars.

Joe ain't gonna take a fall just 'cause these guys can't stay out of court.

I wouldn't be too quick to point the finger. I don't think there's a program in the league that would let four starters go.

I'm not implying they should throw 4 guys off the team. But I would expect the instigators to miss some games.

I think it's hypocritical for PSU to keep them away from summer school, but to allow them to practice during that time period.

Brilliant... sidetrack critics by focusing attention on the return for pre-season workouts. Nobody complains, team's in better shape. Too many complaints, take a "much tougher" stance and cut out the workouts exemption, while still minimizing the effect on the season.

Only punishing the "student" part of "student athlete" I guess.

You'd think it would be the other way around....

And shaving off 11 days in a 3 month ruling? That isn't sending out a clearly mixed message or anything is it?

Does anyone else smell the desperation coming from State College?

The Rail (I get 404 when I try to link the pic, top row, first two pics)

That's when I started smelling desperation.

Maybe, but they did happen to win the Big Ten that year.

This looks more like they are trying to get their best players on the field to give that old man one last winner before he leaves.....
