Columbus Crew SC (2008, 2020, 2023 MLS Champions)

Columbus Crew take on the Seattle Sounders at Century Link Field. I didn't think this would be the first true road test, as I wasn't expecting DC to play as badly as they have. That being said, I'm not overly worried about this game. Sure Chad Marshall is going to try his hardest to play the game of his life, but the only consistency they've gotten is out of Osvaldo Alonso at CDM.

As long as the Crew stick to what they've done so well to start the year, they should win this game easily. The only other team experiencing this good of form this early on, is Toronto. (We know why...)

Kickoff is at 10pm on Time Warner Cable Sports Network.

Meram scores the winner in the 93th minute at Century Link against 10 man Seattle to win 2-1. Fantastic game to watch, pretty much was basketball on grass.

This.

The passing ability of this team is insane. Higuain and Anor were on fire tonight. Really love the fact that Higuain can impose his will as much as he does without scoring (although he was damn close to scoring tonight).

The Crew are 3-0-0, 9 points, top of the East. 7 goals for, 2 goals against.

Any estimation on the projected cost for a renovation of Crew Stadium with a canopy/roof over the upper decks, chairbacks throughout, destruction of the stage and more luxury boxes?

We're looking at over $100 mil, right?

That was frustrating. Spent most of the game sending in crosses with Oduro as the lone striker. What a waste. Even the substitute forwards were passengers. How many good balls came into the box and went out the other side untouched? How many balls took a deflection and sat up dangerously in the box only for everybody in a gold shirt to stand around and scratch their nuts? The first half was very sloppy from Columbus, and that sloppiness led directly to the first Toronto goal. From there they were able to just sit back and absorb everything Columbus tried to do. The Crew dominated possession and strung together a lot of passes, but because there was no threat from a forward Toronto had little to worry about. In the end, even with limited chances Toronto took theirs better and that was the difference.

Really brutal game last weekend against Toronto, but a good humbling experience. I didn't like the fact that Toronto forced Columbus to push the ball wide nearly every time the Crew had possession. They would get chances at the top of the box in front of goal, and just continue to pass. With a 1-0 deficit, you have to keep the pressure on Cesar and keep getting shot attempts off.

I wasn't too disappointed with the back line of the Crew, the fullbacks seemed to get caught up the field a bit too much. Hopefully that improves, but they played well defensively.

This weekend, the Crew take on the San Jose Earthquakes. 3PM kickoff on Sunday.

I hate to already be asking this, but what positional upgrade would be more beneficial to the Crew? Striker or Central Mid?

IMO, that's an incredibly difficult question to answer as we have glaring needs in our defensive midfield, and at striker. I'm hoping Jairo finds his form and we actually have a goal scoring threat up top to go with Anor, Higuain, Meram, and others. I like Dominic Oduro, but he's speed, that's it. He drops his head too much when he's trying to go on a break, and never really looks back up to make another pass. I still feel we need a defensive midfielder to take some of the heat off of Toni Tchani. He's decent at times, but he isn't a 90 minute player, and I'm not a huge fan of subbing off defensive mids (winning or losing).

Arrietta has improved his offsides tendencies, it seems. Which is a HUGE upgrade.
