Columbus Crew SC (2008, 2020, 2023 MLS Champions)

OCSC 2:1 Crew SC - HT

End-to-end action in an exciting match. OCSC have had the better chances, but Clark has made some fine saves. The two that they did allow to find the back of the net were preventable - a lot of ball watching and half-hearted lunges at the back allowed them to move the ball freely inside the Crew's penalty area.

At the other end, OCSC cleared a ball off the line on a corner that appeared to hit the post at first, but actually was a handball - the same type that got Parkhurst sent off and a penalty awarded in the previous meeting between these two teams. No call, no penalty and no card shown when it happened tonight.

Also, Cedric has been subbed on at HT - in place of Finlay, which is interesting.

Good opportunity to catch the Crew on National TV. They play FC Dallas on FS1 at 7pm.

Missing a lot of key guys due to international duty, but some guys are eager to come off the bench and prove their worth.

It's frustrating that MLS does not schedule around international breaks like other leagues - even more so when you consider the number of random bye weeks that occur throughout the season that lead to some teams having three games in hand on rivals in the standings with just weeks to go.

We'll be without 8 players today.

I expect a starting lineup of:

--------------Jack Mac
------Steindorsson---Finlay
---------------Higuain
----------Tchani-----Saeid
Francis--Wahl--Parkhurst--Jiminez
----------------Clark

Pogatetz should be getting close to being back, and Sauro should be about ready to go. Would love to see one of the two replace Wahl. Because he is terrible.

Crew with a huge win in DC tonight. Puts them in 1st place in the Eastern Conference with 47 points on 30 games played.

East:

1. Crew 47 pts. 30 GP
2. New England 46 pts. 30 GP
3. NY Red Bulls 45 pts. 27 GP *Game tomorrow against Portland on ESPN at 5 PM
4. DC United 45 pts. 30 GP (0 wins in their last 5 games, 1 draw 4 losses)
5. Toronto FC 40 pts. 29 GP
6. Montreal 36 pts. 27 GP

Supporters Shield Standings:

1. Vancouver 48 pts 29 GP
2. FC Dallas 47 pts 28 GP
3. LA Galaxy 47 pts 29 GP
4. Columbus 47 pts 30 GP
5. New England 45 pts 30 GP

Really impressed with their performance of late, despite missing new acquisition Gaston Sauro (CB) and losing Emmanuel Pogatetz (CB) for short periods due to injury. This team is poised for a decent playoff run. Kamara continues to lead the league in scoring with 21 goals (added one more tonight), and Finlay (13) is sitting one assist away from being tied for the MLS lead with three other players including Giovinco, Feilhaber, and Cristian Maidana with 14.

They're finding form at the right time. Still need to defend better, but it's not quite the dumpster fire it was midseason. That instant injury to Sauro was unfortunate. Hopefully they can get him integrated in time for the playoffs.

Also, teams having three games in hand at this point in the season is stupid and insane. It's an interesting race, but the fact that Red Bulls sit in third and yet are firmly in control of the race kinda takes some of the excitement out of it.

It's mainly due to CONCACAF Champions League and that horrible international break in which some teams played MLS Reg Season games, some played CCL games. Crew have a pretty brutal stretch run, though.

Remaining Schedule:

Portland
at NY Red Bulls
at Toronto FC
DC United

If they win 3 out of those 4 remaining games, I will be thoroughly impressed.
