Columbus Crew SC (2008, 2020, 2023 MLS Champions)

The speculation is that its gonna be Simply Pure Milk. They did quite a bit of in stadium advertising with us last year. Wouldnt help Columbus's outsider image as a "cow town" if they became our kit sponsor. The company is simply speculation by fans, but the rumor is that we're gonna have a kit sponsor to start the year. With the wide open design in the center of our new alternate, its just begging for a sponsor.

Why can't we get a technology sponsor? Simply Pure Milk for a team named the Crew just doesn't go together. I would have been all for a Samsung sponsor. It'd make that wide open space you speak of, look A LOT better!

I guess it's better than being blank (no sponsor). Whatever money, however small it is, helps.

But that being said, I really don't think Mark McCullers is doing a good job (or even an adequate job).

Considering THAT is the best (rumored) sponsor? Uh yeah, I'd say he's doing a less than stellar job.

There is NO rumored sponsor for the jersies. As far as I can tell, it's all fan speculation at this point as to who the sponsor will be. The real rumor is that we are getting a sponsor before the new season starts.

I, myself, wouldn't mind seeing a national corporation with a plant nearby like Honda being our new sponsor. If you remember back to the first 5 years or so of MLS's beginning, they were a jersey sponsor back then (on the back of the jersey instead of the front, back in those days).

Best guess would be to plan on it being a company that no one is thinking about. Glidden was sure out of the blue when they joined on as our jersey sponsor. And I know Bimbo definetly caught Philadelphia Union fans off-guard.

Very well could be.

However, I'd be willing to bet the Crew FO won't take anything under $1 million per year for a sponsor. I remember reading somewhere that MLS jersey sponsors range between $1 mil and $5 mil per year. The FO has maintained that they are waiting for the right offer in the past, and its very well that they would continue to wait. The deal with Glidden was for $1 mil/year.

And remember, Columbus wasn't the only team that went the whole year without a sponsor. Both FC Dallas and Colorado (ironically, the two teams who played in the MLS Cup Final the year before) were sponsorless last year as well.

That would be SICK! Would remind me of when AC Milan rocked Opel as their sponsor for a few years!

Stage 2 of the Re-Entry Draft happened yesterday. Columbus passed, instead looking to fill their 3 or so openings with guys from outside the league (link).

As a side bar, lots of former Crew players were selected in the re-entry draft: Marc Burch (Seattle), Pat Noonan (LA), Chris Leitch (LA), and Frankie Hejduk (re-signs with LA). Former Crew players Jeff Cunningham and Kevin Burns went unselected.

Getting rid of Mendoza and Cunningham's salaries plus losing Rodgers and Ekpo overseas, they have a lot of cash to spend on potential FAs. Some good roster stuff in that little link. Sounds like they're getting close to potentially inking one of those FAs.

And if they draft this year like they did last year, watch out.

Hahaha, I wish. Those type of names don't end up on the "small market" teams in MLS, whereas the "big market" ones have more than one of them. I've not yet read any big names with regards to Columbus this off-season either.

Like I said earlier though, our staff always looks really hard in South America. We've brought in FAs from there each year the last few years and I don't think this year is going to be any different. Their value for the money is really good, and they come into the fold hungry and with a passion.

I want the Crew to draft Ben Speas. He's the best player available so it won't be easy.

We don't have to draft Speas. He's one of our homegrown players. We can just sign him.
This.

My understanding though is that Speas would have to agree to the deal, and it's not a given that he will do it. If he didn't want to go that route, he would go the route of the draft.

The Crew Academy is stacked with alumni (like Horton and Speas) and current players that will pay major dividends to the parent club one day. It's one of the premier up-and-coming youth talent development programs in the country. One of the best things the Crew ever did.

Also, according to your link, Speas has another year of eligibility, or did I read that wrong?
