COLUMBUS, OHIO ? The Columbus Blue Jackets have acquired left wing Jordan LaVallee-Smotherman from the Atlanta Thrashers in exchange for future considerations, club General Manager Scott Howson announced October 8. He was then assigned to the Syracuse Crunch, the club's American Hockey League affiliate.
LaVallee-Smotherman (pronounced Luh-VAL-Lee SMUH-thuhr-mahn), 23, was Atlanta?s fifth pick, 116th overall, in the 2005 Entry Draft. He has collected one goal and one assist for two points and is +1 in four career NHL games with the Thrashers and has spent most of the past three seasons playing with the AHL's Chicago Wolves. He has registered 39-34-73 and 167 penalty minutes in 140 career AHL games, including a career-high 20-22-42 and 73 penalty minutes in 76 games in 2007-08.
The 6-foot-3, 225-pound native of Corvallis, Oregon played four seasons with the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League from 2002-06. He tallied 72-67-139 and 307 penalty minutes in 225 games, including a career-high 40-26-66 and 108 penalty minutes in 64 games during the 2004-05 season.
