Blue Jackets lock up Klesla to four-year extension

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Just before the start of their ninth season opener, the Columbus Blue Jackets locked up the only player who has been with them from the beginning.

Defenseman Rostislav Klesla signed a four-year contract extension through the 2013-14 season. General manager Scott Howson announced the signing Saturday just before the franchise's ninth season opener against Minnesota.

CBJ win 5-1.
....

Clitsome, despite the goal he scored and the 2-point take down, looked pretty bad out there. John Moore, on the other hand, looked good. Confident and able with the puck. I'm sure he needs to get stronger, but based solely on what my untrained eye saw in his 18 minutes of ice-time last night, I think he could at least contribute this season.

interesting, but keep one thing in mind. one of those guys "looked bad" yet finished the night in the plus. the other "looked good, confident and able with the puck" and his play led to the only goal of the game. neither player is ready. but moore looked like the prototypical player with all the tools, yet hasnt put it together. at this point neither should be playing the nhl and they should be logging heavy minutes. clitsome looks a tad awkward and goofy, yet continues to play a relatively steady game. moore needs more weight, you have to have happy thoughts when you watch him, when a guy can skate and press the other team with a great first pass its exciting to watch.

Blue Jackets deal for Calgary Flames defenseman Anton Stralman - ESPN

Great move, apparently. I admittedly don't know much about Stralman. But I've been reading discussion about this trade and Flames fans are [censored]ed. Sounds like the Jackets get a much-needed right-handed shot with a lot of potential.

Low risk/high reward

I like it.
hes played about sixty games with the marlies, though the crunch and marlies are in different divisions they play frequently.

hes not as big as some have him, nor is he 175 like others say. he doesnt have the boomer of a shot, yet has a nice wrister and ability to get pucks through, that can be very important. hes a thrid pairing type guy. he gives columbus 7 nhl defensemen, you cant go through any season with 6, needless to say a compressed olympic year.

this team appears to play solid team defense and they really seem to get after it on the offensive end too although the power play still looked toothless/out of rhythm on Saturday.

columbus was amongst the best 5v5 teams in the league last year (top five) and typical of hitch teams that is. pk should be ok, pp wont be a strong point, granted it cant get much worse than what 14%? goal is should be about 105% or so combined...

Great game for Mason. The boys were really dragging ass down the stretch. The feet weren't moving at all.

But a road win in the 2nd game of the season, on the west coast, against a good Canuck team (especially at home) with Luongo in net? Yeah, I guess I'll take that.

Heard some clips from the post-game interviews on the radio this morning. Sounds like Boll is concussed and they aren't sure if he'll even be able to fly with the team, much less play. Time for Dorsett or Blunden.

3G, 5A for the CBJ d-men through 2 games. I'm betting that pace doesn't hold up.

true, yet i think you need to look at it in relative terms. its a long flight, its early in the season. id place greater weight however on an 0-2 canadian team in its home opener. toss in the yank on luongo and well you tend to get that jump. my guess is the paint just about peeled off the walls there during intermission... the standing applause for the pulling of luongo/insertion of raycroft, well yeah. id compare it to an 0-2 ohio state football team playing its first home game and the qb tossing 3 ints in the first half... not pretty.

he got the hook... a wins a win. not a full 60 effort or best game, yet winning games is important, certainly good to see you can not play your best against a good team and win.

i had to find myself smiling with some of the "firepower" on display. possibly the first time in franchise history that more than one or two players can take it to them em...

the Canucks came out lit up last night. Destroyed the frogs 7-1.
