Blue Jackets deal for Calgary Flames defenseman Anton Stralman - ESPN

Great move, apparently. I admittedly don't know much about Stralman. But I've been reading discussion about this trade and Flames fans are [censored]ed. Sounds like the Jackets get a much-needed right-handed shot with a lot of potential.

Low risk/high reward

I like it.

pretty much the same with me, dont know much about the guy

but from what I read he could end up being decent

I am pumped that the NHL is right around the corner.

I'll be Tivoing the Blue Jackets game to watch right after the Buckeye game.

Between college football and the NHL I'm good until June. How great is that?

I'm the same way. It's a great feeling. Then when the NHL is over, you can look forward to it starting again soon.

Just went to a site called Calgary Puck forums.

Calgary fans aren't happy at all. Seems that Stralman had a great camp and they think pretty highly of him over there.

Exciting move by the Blue Jackets.

So this is a D man with a right handed shot. Isn't that what JO has been after for some time?

Blue Jackets Aquire Anton Stralman -- Cols Dispatch Blue Jackets Blog

Stralman is in the final year of an entry level contract and has a salary of $731k. Sounds like the Flames were really deep at defense and would have had to put him on waivers... most certainly would have been picked up by somebody, and probably not the Jackets. Win-win situation, but sounds like the Jackets really benefitted the most.

If he works out well for us, I hope Howson can lock him up for awhile! We've got a hell of a core of players for this team now... and they're all still pretty darn young!

Don't know anything about this guy, but if Howson has been after him for a year, that's good enough for me.

Here's his scouting report on The Hockey News:
ASSETS: Has plenty of puck poise and on-ice maturity. Owns a projectable frame and offensive upside. Is good on the power play point due to a hard shot.
FLAWS: Needs to add more bulk in order to better defend against big forwards in North America. Must adjust quickly to the faster pace of the NHL, and avoid big hits.
CAREER POTENTIAL: Top four defenseman.

The Canadian Press: Columbus Blue Jackets forward Fredrik Modin moved to injured list

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Columbus Blue Jackets have placed forward Fredrik Modin on injured reserve and made several other moves to reduce their roster to 23 players heading into Saturday's opener against Minnesota.

General manager Scott Howson announced Tuesday that the veteran Modin, who has a knee injury, will start the year on IR.

The Blue Jackets also placed left-winger Alexandre Picard and defenceman Mathieu Roy on waivers for the purpose of assignment to the club's American Hockey League affiliate in Syracuse; returned left-winger Matt Calvert to the Brandon Wheat Kings of the Western Hockey League; and released defenceman Martin Skoula.

The club also announced the signing of defencemen David Liffiton and Dylan Reese, with both players assigned to Syracuse.

I was kinda hoping maybe the Red Wings could find their way into getting Strahlman. He's going to be a very good player IMO.

He would have been a nice compliment to either Brad Stuart or Nicklas Kronwall when Lidstrom retires after this season.
