Columbus Blue Jackets (Official Thread)

It’s shocking that they couldn’t get anything better for Bjork. Being up against the cap just kills so much leverage.

I’d be surprised if either Johnson or Tex centered that line. I see Jenner being the guy at the start — great face off man, guy who will dig out pucks from the cirners, and is willing to setup in front of the net, and also is a good defensive forward. Maybe Sillinger if he grows into it.

I see Jenner, Sillinger, Roslovic, and Kueraly being primary centers but if they see KJ as the center of the future, they’ve got to find some time at C for him and I don’t know which of those 4 gets kicked out to wing.

I don't think it was a bad trade at all.

While a fan favorite, Bjork probably just had his career year. He gets paid 5.4Mil per year but he's essentially a 40-50 point a year guy who doesn't skill penalties and doesn't score enough on the power play to really justify it. Given what Columbus has brought in, a cap hit like that has to be moved.

CBJ sign C Emil Bemstrom to two-year contract through 2023-24 season

The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed restricted free agent right wing Emil Bemstrom to a two-year, $1.8 million contract through the 2023-24 National Hockey League season, club general manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.

Bemstrom, 23, recorded six goals and five assists for 11 points with four penalty minutes and one game-winning goal in 41 appearances with the Blue Jackets in 2021-22, despite missing the first two months of the season with an oblique strain. He also made his AHL debut with Cleveland this past season, skating in his first game on Dec. 3, 2021 and posting 2-0-2 in four games.

Johnson headlines CBJ prospects at World Juniors
First-round pick leads unbeaten Canada into knockout round, while Czechia draws Team USA in the quarterfinals

If you're looking for some high-level hockey to fill your summer days, the IIHF's rescheduled World Junior Championship has been a great way to whet your appetite for what's to come this fall.

The annual tournament featuring the world's best players under the age of 20, with future NHL stars on many of the squads, was moved from December to August because of COVID. It has now moved on to the knockout round, with all CBJ prospects involved getting ready to play in Wednesday quarterfinals.

Since then, another player in the tournament has joined the Blue Jackets family, as the team's top pick in the 2022 draft, Czech defenseman David Jiricek, is taking part as an assistant captain for his home country. Kent Johnson also returns to the event wearing an "A" for Team Canada, while Jiricek has two fellow CBJ draft picks as teammates in forward Martin Rysavy and defenseman Stanislav Svozil. (A fourth representative is on the Czechia roster as well in goalie Pavel Cajan, who signed a contract with AHL Cleveland this summer.)

This tweet..... is talking about Patrick Kane.

Doesn't really make any sense to me, the salary seems like it would be an issue. Jackets always fleece the Hawks though. Panarin for Saad, Jones for basically half the roster, what's next Chicago?

CBJ F Alexandre Texier will not join club for 2022-23 NHL Season

Columbus Blue Jackets General Manager and Alternate Governor Jarmo Kekalainen announced today that forward Alexandre Texier, per the advice and recommendation of the NHL/NHLPA Substance Abuse and Behavioral Health Program, will not join the club for the 2022-23 National Hockey League season.

The rights of the club and player will be consistent with the treatment of a suspended player, so he will not be paid by the club and his salary will not count against the salary cap. As part of an agreement between the club, NHL, NHLPA and the player, Texier will be permitted to sign a one-year contract to play in Europe for the 2022-23 season.

Well, that frees up $1.5M in salary.

NHL jersey advertisements: Everything you need to know before the 2022-23 season begins

The NHL's jersey ads will be slightly larger than the NBA's. They'll fit into a 3-inch-by-3.5-inch space on the sweaters. Rather than a square patch, they'll use whatever logo the sponsor requests, provided it fits.

The NHL has designated four spots for jersey ads: left and right shoulders, and left and right chest.

"In the current program, it's one patch, in one area only," Wachtel said.

The NHL prohibits any jersey patches that advertise alcohol -- spirits and beer -- tobacco and marijuana products, or anything that's of a sexual nature. The league also won't allow consumer product licensing ads that might conflict with a partner like Fanatics.

As of mid-September, the Arizona Coyotes, Columbus Blue Jackets, Minnesota Wild, Canadiens, Pittsburgh Penguins, St. Louis Blues, Golden Knights and Capitals had all announced jersey advertising partnerships.

Lingering questions for all 32 NHL teams heading into training camp: Goaltending, lineup, injuries, more

Columbus Blue Jackets
Big question: How does Johnny Gaudreau reshape the lineup?

Gaudreau's arrival in Columbus sent shockwaves through the NHL during the summer. Now we'll get to see what kind of seismic shifts Johnny Hockey has caused within the Blue Jackets' lineup. It's expected that Patrik Laine, coming off a resurgent point-per-game season, will play on the opposite wing from Gaudreau on their top line. As great as Gaudreau can be as a playmaker, he can't do it alone. Please recall that Gaudreau played over 1,000 minutes at 5-on-5 with Matthew Tkachuk last season with the Flames, helping him hit 40 goals and break 100 points for the first time in his career. Could Laine offer the same help?

Boone Jenner could center the Gaudreau line. The 29-year-old had 44 points in 59 games last season before a back injury cut his campaign short. He's got the size and physicality that could benefit Gaudreau, and played well with Laine last season. But when Jenner was out, Jack Roslovic was elevated to the top line and played well. Don't count him out of the mix. They're both likely keeping the seat warm for Cole Sillinger, the 19-year-old coming off a strong rookie season. How long before he earns his shot?

Gaudreau's arrival means left wing Jakub Voracek gets knocked down the depth chart for Columbus. He tallied 56 assists last season and averaged 17:28 of ice time per game. If doesn't have Laine on his opposite wing, and with Oliver Bjorkstrand off to Seattle, do those numbers take a tumble? Or does Voracek play hip uncle to Sillinger and Yegor Chinakhov on another scoring line?

Apparently the Blue Jackets played an exhibition double header with the Penguins yesterday (i.e. one game in each city):

Columbus will play its first two exhibition games of the season Sunday, hosting the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Nationwide Arena opener at 7 p.m. after taking on the division rival in the Steel City at 1 p.m.
