Columbus Blue Jackets (Official Thread)

Honestly, the CBJ should just quit making the trip to Nashville.

I don't think they'll ever win a game in that GD building.

Just concede the 2 points for games in Nashville and move on.:(

By the way, was there ever an explanation given for that bullshit no goal call?

Blue Jackets Acquire Scottie Upshall, Sami Lepisto from Phoenix Coyotes in Exchange for Rostislav Klesla, Dane Byers

COLUMBUS, OHIO ? The Columbus Blue Jackets have acquired forward Scottie Upshall and defenseman Sami Lepisto from the Phoenix Coyotes in exchange for defenseman Rostislav Klesla and forward Dane Byers, Blue Jackets Executive Vice President and General Manager Scott Howson announced February 28.

Upshall, 27, has registered 80 goals and 85 assists for 165 points with 315 penalty minutes and a cumulative +36 plus/minus rating in 340 career NHL games with Nashville, Philadelphia and Phoenix. He has tallied 16-11-27, 42 penalty minutes and is +5 in 61 games with the Coyotes this season.

The Fort McMurray, Alberta native was Nashville?s first pick, sixth overall, in the 2002 Entry Draft. He spent parts of four seasons in the Predators organization before joining the Flyers during the 2006-07 campaign. The following year he notched 14-16-30 and 74 penalty minutes in 61 games and added 3-4-7 and 44 penalty minutes in 17 playoff games to help Philadelphia advance to the 2008 Eastern Conference Final. He joined Phoenix during the 2008-09 season and combined for a career-high 15-19-34 and 89 penalty minutes in 74 games. In 2009-10, he set a career high for goals with 18-14-32 and 50 penalty minutes in just 49 games. He is on pace to record his fourth-straight season with at least 14 goals and 30-plus points.

TSN's take:

Making a bid for a playoff spot, the Columbus Blue Jackets have added some firepower up front, sending a veteran, injury-prone defenceman to the desert to make it happen.
...
Four points out of eighth, Columbus is still in the playoff hunt in the Western Conference, so adding additional firepower up front should help and since they've been making their recent charge with Klesla out of the lineup anyway, they're a little ahead of the game with Lepisto providing depth along the blueline.
...
Byers is a 25-year-old who has generally been an AHL player, getting into six career NHL games, but has some size and plays a no-nonsense grinding game, tallying 34 points with a plus-4 rating and racking up 120 penalty minutes in 64 games in the American Hockey League with Connecticut and Springfield this season.

I'm tired of seeing them play in that toilet. Fuck those asshats.

Lepisto can move the puck and has a nice shot. Probably won't put up a ton of points, but should fit in nicely. I've always liked his game from what I've seen of him. RFA after the season.

Upshall will fit in nicely. UFA after the season.

Jackets traded Sestito to Philly for Michael Chaput and Greg Moore. Don't know anything about either of them, but I guess Chaput is a point per game in the QMJHL and is a nice prospect. Stats this season are 22 goals, 33 assists in 55 games.

I liked Sestito's game a lot. Could fight and was great in front of the net, I was impressed with him when I saw him with the Jackets. Guess the Jackets didn't see a fit for him in their long-term plans.
