Columbus Blue Jackets (Official Thread)

Well this is interesting. Bob Mckenzie posted this on Twitter, and Bob Mckenzie is reliable..

1) Trade discussions around the NHL are heating up as teams move closer to declaring themselves as "buyers" or "sellers."

Sources around the league consider the Columbus Blue Jackets to be among those most eager and perhaps, closest to making a significant deal.

Blue Jackets general manager Scott Howson doesn't speak publicly about trade negotiations and won't comment on speculation a few of his key players may be in play.

However, Columbus goaltender Steve Mason (the 2009 NHL rookie of the year), young forward Jakub Voracek (selected seventh overall in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft) and 28-year-old defenceman Rostislav Klesla - the Blue Jackets' first ever draft pick (4th overall in 2000) are believed to be drawing trade interest.

The Blue Jackets' needs are many, although a top line centre and high quality defenceman are said to be on Howson's wish list.

More surprised about Mason than anyone else, to be honest. He's definitely had some issues, but he's still young and ahead of the curve as far as goalies go. We've seen what he can do with a defense that plays well. He hasn't had that since his rookie season. But if it can bring in a legitimate top-pairing d-man or a #1 center, I'm all for it.

I could be Krusty going somewhere. I'm kind of surprised Vorachek is on the block, but that could be because a team wants him, not that the CBJ are actually shopping him.

Jake is the Jackets' biggest asset not named Nash, so I wouldn't be surprised at all if they were shopping him to see what he could get in return. Brad Richards and Jason Spezza might be available, so maybe they're putting out some feelers.

Do you really think Dallas would trade Richards given their record and standing right now? I don't.

I betcha Krusty ends up on either Tampa or Philly as a 5-6th D-man.

The Blue Jackets played tonight in the textbook way to beat the Wings. Don't let them get down to the dots and certainly don't let them shoot from between the dots. Look where the CBJ worked all night long - right to the goal. The Wings won't do that unless Babcock gets on them, they don't self-motivate very well (damned Euro-pansies :pissed: )

Force them to the perimeter and they'll be content to float out there all game, even their supposed grinder types like Franzen will skate on the perimeter. This team needs Tomas Holmstrom healthy BAD, perhaps worse than they need Modano or Datsyuk and that's saying something.

If the CBJ give that effort defensively every night, they are easily top 8 in the West. But they don't.

Heading out in a few to see the CBJ take on the Oil.

Maybe the momentum from kicking the shit out of my Red Wings last night will carry over, but since I'm going to watch the game I'm sure they'll lose 6-1 or something.....

The rest of February

@Shitsburgh
San Jose
Colorado
@Dallas
LA
@Shitcago
Trashville
Phoenix
@Trashville

If they can go 6-3 or even 5-4 in that stretch and finish February with a winning record in the month (they are already 2-1), they will absolutely be in contention for at least 8th in the West.

Virtually all of their games from now until the middle of march (not counting games against Pitt, Carolina and Boston) are against teams tied with or ahead of them in the standings.

February 28th is the trade deadline. we'll know long before then if they are going to be buyers or sellers given that schedule.

2-0 early in the 2nd, just after a line change, Phallson scores. Jackets looking hungry in this game..

Refs reviewing the play to see if Phallson kicked it in. After review goal stands! :groove3:
