Columbus Blue Jackets (Official Thread)

Need a shakeup trade.

Or a Brad Richards trade..
could be.

at minimum id bring up somebody from springfield- if its kubalik let him park his ass in front of the net on the pp, maybe its needed grit of a sestito/blunden move or help on the back end with clitsome/holden/goulbef/moore, etc. even if it is just for a cup of coffee.

all that said it is relatively obvious that this team misses juice, like him or hate him he provides some stability to an average at best pp when hes healthy.

specialty teams of late have been awful.

the team knowingly walked into a hornets nest last night in st louis and looked like they were out for a sleep walk. when this team was playing well it was playing fast, physical, skating, and generally like their hair was on fire. of late none of that describes the team. a floundering december last year scuttled the season, is it afoot again?

Agreed...they should put Nash back out on the PK especially...the crap about wanting to "keep him fresh for the PP" is a bunch of garbage. How's that PP working out with him fresh? Plus he's a danger shorthanded...also need to overhaul the PP units. Maybe move some guys that aren't "traditional" PP guys...anyone that can create traffic and move killers around...hell how many goals did guys like Mike Gartner score with their asses while in front of net? Also need to shake up the playing time....I'm actually really surprised that Blunden hasn't at least gotten a little. Dorsett seems to be a waste at the moment, and Vermette isn't doing much either. Guys should either produce or sit.

thats all good and well, but how do you "overhaul" the pp units? i mean commodore and hejda, really? come on be realistic, you have what you have to work with. who does the team have who can create traffic? nash, if you lose him you lose one of your small handful of guys who can play on the perm or halfwall. umbie, hes there. thats about it. thats why my comment about kubalik, etc. questions are abound on doresett. vermette has got to skate and play with a greater sense of urgency. as noted the video game move is a shake up trade, but who wants to trade with you? youve got a conference that has a 12 pt spread and a team floundering, how much overpayment is necessary? a lot, imo to overcome that.

It just seems to me that in big games, unless they have at least a 1 goal lead there are only about 2-3 guys on the team who want the puck. the rest of them get rid of it as soon as they can. They have been so timid against the better teams sometime that its hard to think they can compete at a high level on a consistent basis.

Moreau? Pahlsson? Clark? Boll? Hell, Blunden or Wilson? I don't know, all I know is that what they're doing, which is having guys dump and if they're lucky enough to retrieve, which isn't often, flutter it around the perimeter with pretty passes and no shots, isn't working. Of course it shouldn't be Nash, but someone has to have a sense of urgency on the PP besides Umberger in front. Right now they are accomplishing nothing up there, and as a result guys are looking for the perfect cutesy backdoor play instead of putting the puck on net and chipping at rebounds. Dorsett is useless except as an agitator, Vermette has been a waste this year and even the lines that were working earlier (Nash/Voracek/Brassard) don't work now. I don't think a trade will help because we'll have to give up too much, but a shakeup is necessary.

what youre trying to say is that the game is too rich for a given group of guys.

how else can we slice it?

the team is bland down the middle.

compete, more like what has that been the last two weeks.

died on the vine pretty much sums up the last two weeks.

reckless-not at all. more like lifeless.

weight? i havent seen that out of anyone.

skate, as i mentioned not seeing that.

you look at this group and you have had a lot of guys who have gone beyond the candidate for time off into watching from the press box, what hass that done, hard to say much...

im seeing little pack mentality from these guys, early on you could see it, the forcheck was breathing down other teams necks, they looked like a pack of vicious, hungry wolves out for a kill, lately its been of the lap dog variety.

youve seen of late these guys are wading into games and feeling them out versus being jacked up and jumping in. the only thing that results from this is chasing the game, never a good thing. you see it from time to time they look like they want the easy game, not the game that needs to be played.

puck luck-it comes from speed and tempo, not bounces. those who attack have it, those who are passive do not.

this team gets caught up in the game, they need to play the game in inches, not feet. fight for the little things, finish the check, skate the extra stride on the forcheck, etc.

the forcheck needs to get in deeper, pen the other team in, make them make pressure plays, play the game at a faster pace, grabbing the tempo and force the game into overdrive.

offensively they have to penetrate, funnel the offense and spray shots.

listen this isnt the most talented team in the league, dead honest fact. they have to go out and do all the little things, work their system, play at a higher tempo, be physical and skate in order to compete.

im not agreeing or disagreeing, merely stating you have the pieces you have to work with. you dont have the sharks line up, you cant go thorton, marleau, heatley, pavelski, clowe, couture. you just dont.

pahlsson isnt going to be effective on the pp, just isnt, not his nature.
moreau-maybe but until he can make a fist with his hand, im not sure what the expectations should be
clark-overpaid, granted he can bring it, but hes limited. he is one potential option to try and get more traffic in front of the net, but he is what he is.
boll-i guess, who knows.
blunden-hes in springfield. as i mentioned maybe bring up 2 or 3 of those guys and letting them run wild may not be a bad idea. and when i say let them run wild i mean turn blunden/sestitio lose unleash the bash brothers, tell them to hit what moves and if it hits back hit again, if problems arise drop the mitts.

im sure sn would love to go back to the 1-3-1 but without a guy who can control the game on both halfwalls you cannot do that, that guy is juice.

like i said, you are what you are. you have the pieces you have. what can you do to shake the rug to get something going. maybe its clavert, i really dont know. hes small and undersized but shows fight.

maybe its a trade, but im not aware of anyone shopping anything of value (in reality, burkie always claims to be buying and selling but never is, etc) which is why as i mentioned the brian lee clearing waivers things was odd. hes not having a great year but who knows, maybe that was a shot worth taking?

then again if you can get an opportunity to pull the trigger on something i think you do. much like iginla was shipped out of dallas to calgary, was that a mistake, maybe but it laid the foundation with nieuwendyks move to the big d for something special. its all hard to say, yet i think you can safely say the "future" and realities at some point may need to push ubber patience to the back-burner for some urgency...
