Columbus Blue Jackets (Official Thread)

This is one of the most listless offensive performances I've ever seen from the CBJ in the Hitchcock era.

they are getting absolutely no sustained offensive pressure tonight. part of that is Minnesota's defense but part of that is once these guys got down 2-0, they quit.

jackets are only 8 points out of a playoff spot. with 12 of the next 17 games at home, getting back in the hunt is completely possible, especially with the way they have played at home the last 2 seasons.
im not saying that it will definitly happen, but it is a good possibility that the jackets might be back in the hunt by the olympic break

They have already played 55 games while Calgary and Detroit (9th and 8th respectively) have played only 52. There's no way that gap stays at 8 points no matter what the CBJ do unless Calgary's collapse continues and Detroit finds a way to continue to be mediocre when their injured players come back.

As I said, they can do it, but they are going to need to play .800 hockey to do it. I don't see a team this limited defensively doing that down the stretch.

My guess is they'll end up somewhere between 4 and 10 points out of 8th when it all settles out.

well they have shown that they can be porous defensively, although they are getting klesla back in the next week. before he got hurt, he was the most consistent blue liner on the team, so he could really help out

I feel bad for Hitch, such a great begining, all to go down hill so quick. I think we lost a lot of locker room leadership in Peca, Malholtra and Jason Williams. Tough year, the talent and potential is there.

Somewhat unrelated, but someone on a different board just said that Nash wouldn't crack the top 6 on the Pens and that he'd take Pascal Dupuis and Bill Guerin over Nash.

Talk about people trying to say it was the roster more than the coach. Jesus. The Jackets have enough talent to be a playoff team, as we've seen. The defense, offense and goaltending have all been awful this year. Some of that blame goes to the players, some to the coach. Can't fire the team. I hope the Jackets can get someone on the team who will play a more up-tempo game to utilize the strengths of the young guys, and maybe get Filatov back.

Not shocked at all.

Hitch will catch on elsewhere.

This team wasn't playing to his standard anyway.

And no Nutz, they still won't make the playoffs. I actually do wonder if firing Hitch might beget a fire sale to a certain extent (Klesla, Modin, Umberger, Garon)....

Playing like a bunch of Tin Men now.

Lose RJ and Torres and every bit of heart goes along with them.

I know Hitch probably had to go because that's how hockey works, but good Lord...

what can a coach do with a bunch of pussies like the Blue Jackets?
