Columbus Blue Jackets (Official Thread)

Actually a pretty fun game to watch.

The Blues defense was atrocious. One of the worst defensive games from a team I've seen this year.

Jackets' D wasn't much better.. but it was better. And they actually looked like a competent offensive squad.

Eh, Jackets ended up not sucking for a night. 3-2 win.

well they got a gift penalty (which happens believe me) and they didn't waste it.

They played well enough to win - although I'm starting to be of the opinion that Nash needs help, especially in scoring not just being set up.

They need another "star".

They also had a goal taken away which was ruled a kick. It's true the puck went in off Vermette's skate, but it he wasn't trying to kick the puck in... Though, on slow mo it looks like he is

Yeah - with those calls if it's anywhere close they are going to call it a kick anymore. Malhotra had a goal taken away from him against Dallas last season on a similar play - except his skate was going an opposite direction from the goal

I didn't see last night's, but the one they took away from Manny was absolute garbage. No way was that a kick.

yes they do....i dont know why they arent even thinking about going after a kovalchuck, or a kovalev, etc. cuz they have the prospects and the players to trade. there is no way we make it to the playoffs without a reasonable trade by the deadline, although howson most likely will be selling

The playoffs this year aren't happening. They are 53 games in and they aren't even at a point a game yet.

They are 9 points out of 8th, and both Detroit and Calgary have 3 games in hand on them which means the gap could very easily grow. Now while I do eventually expect Phoenix to fall apart down the stretch, I don't foresee Calgary staying as bad as they've been and I fully expect Detroit to get hot down the stretch when they get healthy. I think Nashville is already playing with house money much like LA is to an extent.

The West is doing unusually well against the East this year. I don't think there are enough games for the CBJ to make it up. They only have 58 possible points left in the season. They currently have 49 points. Even if they play .800 hockey down the stretch that's only 23 wins or 46 points. I think 95 points is good enough for maybe an 8 seed this year in the West maybe, but there's no way this team is playing .800 hockey down the stretch.

Now it's onto making this team ready out of the gates for the 2010-2011 season. Howson is likely already making up a plan to ensure this team is more responsible defensively next year, but also able to more fully dominate the puck control game, which is another area this team is seriously lacking right now.

Kovalchuk wants to test free agency, so he's going to be a rental for a serious contender. Not worth trading prospects for a rental to get a worse draft pick.

I bet Kovy ends up in Chicago.. that lineup is going to be sick.

I don't know if they have the pieces or cap room to really go for him. I think a more likely destination is either Calgary or Washington....and since he's a rental, one of the teams that is playing with house money, like say, Buffalo, could take a shot at the cup with him in the lineup for 2 months.

To clarify, I think Chicago tries to shore up its defensive end rather than adding more scoring. The team can score 5 goals a night, but if it gives up 4 it won't win very many playoff games.

Chicago needs an expiring contract, and that's a big one. I've heard that they're willing to part with Cam Barker, Dustin Byfuglin and Kris Versteeg. Not all for Kovy, but maybe two of them and a pick.

I guess they're pretty happy with the young guy, Hjalmarsson. They need a consistent goalie too.

Washington has the assets to get him.. wouldn't be surprised to see him go there either. That would be scary. LA maybe, too.
