Columbus Blue Jackets (Official Thread)

What the fuck are you talking about? The CBJ are 6 points out of a playoff spot. 6 points.. that's 3 wins... they've got a lot more than 3 games left.

I'll give you that. But this is a team that has lost something like 15 of their last 17 games. They are psychologically "damaged" right now and they are playing tentatively. They have forgotten how to win and they are playing like it.

With the way they are playing they may as well be 60 points out of the last spot.

With Stars, Red Wings, Red Wings, Islanders and Predators coming up I don't see a win in there anywhere. Maybe the Islanders.

No question they're playing like absolute shit. Just didn't want to go in to "fold up the tents" mode just yet. If they're gonna turn it around, though, they'd better get to doing that. At least some of those Ls were OTLs so they got a point.

Played pretty well tonight, just couldn't put the puck in the net and couldn't keep it out when it really mattered.

Other than that, how did you enjoy the play, Mrs. Lincoln?

The consternation in Columbus is growing, where the only thing the Blue Jackets lead the league in is meetings, it seems. They?ve lost eight in a row and 10 straight on the road and their 2-11-5 stretch since Nov. 19 is the worst 18-game stretch in franchise history, which is saying something. The issues are a lack of leadership, poor goaltending (Steve Mason has been pulled five times already) and awful starts. Check out this stat: the Blue Jackets allowed the fewest first-period goals last year (only 54 in 82 games). This year they have given up 39 in 38 games, second worst in the league to Edmonton. Still, word is coach Ken Hitchcock is safe for now ...

How does a team go from solid to absolute dogshit in a year? It's the same fucking guys that were here last year.

This team is done. I'm not sure how Hitch should be on the hook for a team that has no heart. I know you can't fire the team, but what the fuck? It's not like Hitch has forgotten how to coach. The guy has won a Cup for Chris'sakes.

Absolutely horrible. This is the worst stretch in team history!!! Like I said before, this team is done. Shit.

Now what am I going to watch until baseball season? AND I'M A TRIBE FAN!!!!! Is it August yet??

I agree that the team is just dreadful right now in terms of W/L and it's quite frustrating to watch. I'm not the most versed in hockey Xs and Os, but it just seems to me that the CBJ can't complete a pass, seem to simply throw the puck around the ice and play with a certain disorganization that I don't see from the other teams. There seldom seems to be any charge to the net for rebounds or loose pucks, and then the times the CBJ do have someone in front, they either wiff or miss the net... Like I said, I don't know hockey Xs and Os, but there seems to be no sets at all - dump it in to the corner, dig it out, pass to the blue line.. no body home... go play defense.

All that said, I have to think getting rid of Hitch would be a huge mistake. Accountability for the team's play is his, of course, but the guy is a proven winner of a coach and I'd hate to see the CBJ "start over" with someone else right now.

I suppose the good news is that this team is still very very young. That's probably costing them right now, because these losses seem to be in their heads in the same way Michigan was in Ohio State's head in the Cooper era. "Here we go again....." But, in the long run, if they can keep the core group of guys together, there's a good deal of potential on the ice.
