Columbus Blue Jackets (Official Thread)

so what experts are saying that the CBJ are going to Kansas City??

fucking E$$$ and their rumors :shake:
it has to do with the study that came out. troll over to the dispatch they have all kinds of coverage on it.

as far as i know this is preemptive so their doesnt have to be a fiasco. its a way to use the bright minds down the street to come up with alternatives (and give them credibility). teams in clev/cin get some help, the jackets do not. the arena deal isnt good, the tv deal is amongst the worst in the league, granted attendance is up double digits over last year. corp revenue is steadyish. i think its a way to attack a big problem before it gets out of hands. remember the pens a few years ago were all but gone...

hard to say though beyond revenue wise it has not been profitable. granted franchise values have greatly appreciated.

just me rambling really, i dont know any real details

yeah but I have a hard time thinking that a league that is:

1 - in SERIOUS needs of new fans and an energized fan base

and

2 - Having a hell of a time moving a completely FAILED franchise in a city that doesn't want them.

But it's Buttman and the NHL.

you preferred to pay $150 for two tickets to walk away with a draw? reality is it has no impact on the standings (if you take the three point standings out the end season outcomes are nearly identical) ill give you that theyve become "less exciting" the more you see them, however you dont see fans sitting during them, granted half the time the home crowd ends up sulking home, the other half of the time they are buzzing about a sweet save/move-goal. pre SO can you remember how many teams went neutral ice hockey and packed it in and took the points? a lot/most.

Here is my problem with the current system with a tie after regulation. You have a five minute overtime, which I find waaaaaay too little time to decide a winner. I'm a sucker for the 3 OT playoff games and would love to see that in the regular season. Not going to happen, I know, but give them more than five minutes. I find hockey overtime to be the most exciting thing in sports because your team could win or lose at any given second. It's instant. You're hit with a rush of adrenaline every time it's close.

With shootouts, it's so anti-climactic. I'd much rather there be a winner than a tie, but I'd rather the winner come from OT. Or at least a shootout after more than five minutes of OT. Just doesn't seem like enough time.

so, how does a team play an extra period (especially a western conference team) [of longer length, say 10 or a full 20 more] fly from dallas to vancouver, 2,400 miles, then play the next night? or granted maybe its three in four with the three western canadian teams. unrealistic really. not only that it likely degenerates the level o fplay the longer it lasts. half the time the teams are gassed from 60 minutes or a push in the third, etc. i just dont see it increasing the "quality" like you might expect. theyve tinkered with it at a few levels i know. more than half the time, maybe most of the time both teams play to win in ot. maybe not all out river hockey, rather they press pretty good. to be honest im pretty sure a team would rather lose most of the time than play a 3ot thriller in the regular season, it zaps it right out of the team.

ill be honest, it works great in nintendo games, yet not so much in real life. playoff is a different beast as you have a night off. and you play the same team next game (or advance).

and you really think the SO is "anti-climatic"? do you not stand, cheer, heart races, feel the joys, jubilation, sorrow, do you not see the puck trickle in sometimes in what seems like slow motion? (even if its not your team i think most people get a little juiced). like i said i think its lost some of the edge, but i think its a good way to not have draws, to have some excitement and give you something to talk about a the water cooler.

I know it's not realistic and I definitely understand why it's the way it is. The best regular season option isn't going to happen for the reasons you said. I don't disagree with your reasoning at all. I just don't like it.

But yeah, I do find shootouts anti-climactic. I think they're really boring. I stand up and cheer, and I am happy when my team wins, but my heart does not race. I'm not into it like I am the game itself. It seems gimmicky for some reason, and I don't like that. (I know, no other option really, other than ties)

speaking of that have you seen/heard all the whining from the pens on their western roadie?

10/30 @cbj
11/31 wild
11/3 @ducks
11/5 @kings
11/7 @sharks
11/10 @bruinis

so they end up on five day roadie and complain, no b2b, a day off between the la teams and a day off between la and san jose. pens will go home red eye on the 7th, be at home the 8th and travel the 9th (or 10th) to boston.

oh eastern conference babies. western teams would kill for that to be something to cry about out...

I haven't heard the complaining. That looks like some pretty stupid stuff to be complaining about. But I'll be honest, it doesn't surprise me. There are some stupid Penguins fans out there. It's sad that when I say I'm a Pens fan I have to explain that I have been since I was in single digits in age.
