Columbus Blue Jackets (Official Thread)

the best line for Nash would be centered by Datsyuk with Malkin on the other wing.

God I can't wait to see the Russian team with Ovie - Datsyuk and Malkin as a the top line.
the nash/getzlaf/heatley line was nearly unstoppable. hitch hit the nash thing right on the head, he can play nearly any style is what makes him unique.

i wonder if youll see that line out of the ruskies...

Blue Jackets give Brassard extension

The Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday announced a four-year contract extension for promising centre Derick Brassard.

Brassard, 22, was due to be a restricted free agent at the end of next season but instead signed a four-year contract worth $12.8 million US ? a deal that runs through the 2013-14 season.

Says the Devils and Jackets are leaders for Anton Babchuk. Really hope it happens.. put him on the third pair and let him unleash that slapper of his on the powerplay.. he'd be a big asset.

I hear he's not the greatest defensively and not that physical, but he has a big shot and can hit the net.

I don't know if that's the greatest thing in the world given the division that Columbus is in......

However, if he comes cheap and more importantly, if he can be the point on the Power Play he might be worth it.

It's interesting that the Devils are going after him if he's "not that great defensively"....that's kind of weird.

I've also read that he's good positionally and can block shots. As long as he's not logging major minutes I wouldn't have a problem with it at all.

I really have no idea how he is defensively, just what I've read from a couple people. No experts or anything. I've not seen him play enough.

hes not really a pont man, granted with russell or brass/jake up top it might be a nice combo.

its been a relatively accurate source this offseason.
NHL Sources Say Rumor Tracker

granted that that wording is relatively vauge.

ive said it could, or another move could happen the team seems willing to go forward with the current lineup, however i did mention babs earlier this summer, and i think a move is likely if the deal is "right" thats more than one "if"

Hitch says he's gunning for Detroit. I'm not sure the Jackets improved much roster-wise this offseason, though I except them to take another step in the right direction. As far as catching Detroit, we (Wings fan) have played until June for three years in a row now. With the Olympics this season, I worry about some serious fatigue issues with the Wings. I still don't think the Jackets are there, but it should be closer this season.

Brassard back is a plus

Filatov could add something as well........

they probably arent on the same level as Detroit yet, but I think they will at least be a little bit better this year (compared to last)

what do you want him to say? "oh man we hope to be better than the islanders this year..."

yes, the season is compacted.

yes the wings are an older team.

however, id think youd be hard pressed to look at what appears to a team with 6 nhl defenseman. no okt, no backman to sit in the pressbox. and no methot sitting around waiting. now you might bank on holden or maybe roy? hard to say.

im not sure many teams are on the wings level.

I thought that the prevailing opinion was that everyone in that division improved somewhat in the offseason while Detroit back slid a little.

No?

sure, im not far how far in any of those ways teams went though.
