Columbus Blue Jackets (Official Thread)

Bah the tv announcers were abysmal first they agreed with the call but then after we scored the goal it was progressively more eh it was a ticky tack call till by the end of the game they were saying it was a bad call and you don't make that call there.

idnt read the whole thing.
1-publicly di$agreeing with a call can be a an expen$ive mi$take. remember the hitch "we won the game" press conference? that wasnt a cheap presser...
2-whether or not it was (it was) modin (i think it was modin) should not have played the puck, he should have taken the icing. take the faceoff in the far zone with a tired team on the ice, unless they would have blown icing off... granted if jake has skated off the ice after his double shift we wouldnt have this discussion(though truely id bet money the wings win it in ot, deeper, skilled and better team, imo).
3-the call was made by a linesman...
4-i complained twice during the thrid period to the guy next to me when the wings did the same thing. i was told that was rarely called, and hardly ever in the playoffs, and never late in games. i reminded him of don cherry going ape shit on the 1979? call against the habs... game 7, blah blah yup.
5-you had the puck for dog. the one that the linesman called tipped, the official (lee craig, 9 year nhl vet first nhl playoff game, hmmm.. telling...) who goes in and says no it was tipped, waved down, takes to him, overruled. wrong call.
6-the call that irked me the most was when osgood and two defenders lay on the ground, zetterberg came sliding in. stopped, reaches out, net pushed off the moorings with jackets in a scoring position. thats a likely goal negated. but hey folks thats what you get as a small market team.
7-jackets got jobbed all series on the whistles, thats life. many have come to accept it. their is a peaking order, with the wings they sit in an original six slot, in a good ol boys club thats life.
8-complaing about klesla? are you kdding me? sure he cleared the crease more than once but he was the best jacket all series. he played homer how he should be played. i wouldnt have called much more on him. granted if you want to complain about htat thenwe can talk goaltender interference.
9-when raffi torres, dorsett, klesla are your best players for the series (and rj umberger) that says something.
10-i dunno more later i guess...

end of story. wings are the better team, won the series. im fine with all that.

Come on BuckeyeMike.

You know as well as I do that that call doesn't get made at that point in that kind of game 99% of the time.

You said it yourself: They didn't call shit in the third period and then they are going to call THAT??? With 1:45 left?????? Christ how many non calls were there for BOTH sides in that game and then you're going to call a too many men on the ice in a tight playoff game with under 2:00???

I'm not saying that it wasn't a penalty by the letter of the law. It absolutely was. What I'm saying is when is the last time you saw a play off game like that called to the letter of the law? Hell, the refs swallow their whistles in regular season games that play like that.

Detroit wins the series. Detroit was the dominant team and is my pick to win the Stanley Cup this year. Detroit completely outplayed Columbus and showed why they are a perennial Cup contender.

But that was a bullshit call and that call DOES NOT get made at that point in the game if it's Detroit with too many men on the ice. Nothing you say can convince me of that.

The great one is obviously Mikael Samuelsson. Or maybe Ulf Samuellson. or maybe Don Beaupre.

Ulf Samuellson....I remember reading where they were taking a poll of the players on who the dirtiest player in the league was and Ulf asked if he could vote for himself. :slappy:

I just think that anybody living in Ohio that's happy that the a team from TSUN won the series should require some extra showers for the next few days.

the last time you saw that late in a playoff game was 1979 don cherry vs the habs, game 7.

im not convinced by the "letter of the law" that it was. if jake is within (any part of his body) 5 feet of the boards it is not a penalty.

also, if extra men are on the ice why was icing waived off...

i generally think it was but hey i wouldnt have waived off icing saying the player was going to be in position to make the play...

Rule 74 – Too Many Men on the Ice
74.1 Too Many Men on the Ice - Players and goalkeepers may be
changed at any time during the play from the players’ bench provided
that the player or players leaving the ice shall be within five feet (5') of
his players’ bench and out of the play before the change is made.
Refer also to Rule 71 – Premature Substitution. At the discretion of
the on-ice officials, should a substituting player come onto the ice
before his teammate is within the five foot (5’) limit of the players’
bench (and therefore clearly causing his team to have too many
players on the ice), then a bench minor penalty may be assessed.
When a player or goalkeeper is retiring from the ice surface and is
within the five foot (5’) limit of his players’ bench, and his substitute is
on the ice, then the retiring player or goalkeeper shall be considered
off the ice for the purpose of Rule 70 – Leaving Bench.

Interpretation of penalty call, Detroit vs. Columbus, 18:26 of third period
04.23.2009 / 10:49 PM ET

Rule 74.1 from NHL Rule Book: Too Many Men on the Ice -If in the course of making a substitution, either the player entering the game or the player (or goalkeeper) retiring from the ice surface plays the puck with his stick, skates or hands or who checks or makes any physical contact with an opposing player while either the player entering the game or the retiring player is actually on the ice, then the infraction of “too many men on the ice” will be called.
