Brassard injury is looming large. What are the keys to a successful power play? I'm wondering this as the team tries to qualify for playoff action.

The one on....damn....Letain?.....against Novotny....I thought was legit. He decked Novotny cleanly in the neutral zone, Novotny came down and put a clean hit on him and Letain went back at him.....
The other roughing call...out near the Pittsburgh bench...I didn't see clearly....no clue what happened there.
I thought the goalie interference was a pretty weak call, but I only saw it live. Looked accidental to me.
what have i told you was howsons plan all along mike? assemble a team that can play a tight checking game (ie the way-maybe the only way to beat the wings...)As a Red Wings fan, let me say I absolutely want NOTHING to do with Columbus in the first round of the playoffs....
its ice hockey. the pens lost their composure early. the tight checking frustrated them. after crosby took a run at mase and ended up in the net withouot his helmet and repeatedly butt ended mason in the tailbone. malkin to the corssbar, he ran mason. granted once he entered the crease commodore made him pay the price. lesson should be learned. run the netminder, get trucked. once the pens quit whining and started skating they looked much better. constanly talking to the armbands (both letters and non letters) they played much better. the pens controlled the first 4 or so minutes of the game and about a 7 mins in the third, the jackets carried the play for awhile their in the middle of the game, the other 40 or so minutes was awesome hockey. very enjoyable game. and numbers, 50-50? errr id say 5kish of pens fans. granted i know more than a dozen pens/jackets fans who are season ticket holders. one of my friends says when the pens come to town he boos/cheers all game. its actually comical to watch...Another game...2 more points.
They both spent a shit ton of time....I'll be kind and call it pleading...with the officials. It was constant.
New single game attendance record set tonight with over 19,100.

Maybe the one against Letang was one of them, I don't remember the initial hit so I might have missed it. I think there was another that put Talbot in the penalty box that I thought was bull[censored]. Talbot was trying to skate away from the CBJ player, and the CBJ player started shoving him. Talbot did absolutely nothing that the CBJ player didn't do, and wasn't even the dude who started the damn thing.
talbot grabbed his throat i believe (if thats the correct one im thinking of)
There was a [censored]ing blatant elbow against Cooke about 30 seconds into the game, right in front of one of the refs. It was missed.
a handful of high hits were missed both ways. luckily in the fray of leaving feet only methot suffered a concussion.
There were some definite weak calls against Pittsburgh. But, they had their chances. Malkin hit Dupuis with a perfect pass when it was 0-0, and Dupuis couldn't deliver. Kunitz hit the post in OT.. beauty of a shot, just didn't go in. Fleury found himself out of position multiple times and only had himself to blame on a couple goals.
some calls were missed both ways. some i think were missed others with the play of the game were let go. they let columbus play their checking game and let the pens play some of their grab and hold game. im fine with that.
Was it just me or was Gonchar making a ton of mistakes out there? If it weren't for his goal that got Pittsburgh going, I'd say he had a terrible game.
he was overpowered by nash a few times. i also felt for awhile he was looking for revenge rather than making the easy play. he looked still a half step slow and a tad rusty. its been about 10 games, their is a wall at about 3 games and ten games when returning from injury usually.
It was tough rooting against the Jackets. I expected to not be too upset when they scored. Boy, was I wrong. I [censored]ing hated the Jackets last night. I was a bit saddened by this.
youve heard me say multiple times one of the issues with the last set of expansion is failure to recognize non conference "tensions" no way the pens-jackets should not play a home and home. to many common fans, to close proximity. same with the sabres.
Atmosphere was probably the best atmosphere I've ever experienced at a sporting event (I've never been to a playoff game of any sort). It was loud. Full of energy from beginning to end. That third period was some of the greatest entertainment ever.
nothing, nothing matches lord stanleys finals.
I might be exaggerating with the greatest entertainment ever. Maybe not though. It was excellent. Good to see both teams leave with points. Can't complain about the Jackets getting a couple. It'll be nice to be able to be a CBJ fan again. :p
traitor!

That was a good moment, btw. Glad I got to be there for it.

the thing i dont think anyone mentnioned was early in the game for about five minutes players on both teams were leaving their feet to check. only bad things happen then. the blow to the head on methot likely puts him on the shelf for a week or more with a concussion.

its nice to see maf. i really enjoy watching him, he has great lateral push that allows himi to go post to post. sids sid and when he plays hockey and shuts his mouth and is strong on his skates is awesome. malkin is a large human with tons of skill. staal when he keeps his feet moving is a lot of fun to watch. when he coasts hes average. blah blah, i wish we saw more of the eastern conference teams i guess.
id say 5k pens 10k jackets and 4k of tweeners. which by math made it like about 50% pens fans and 70% jackets fans.I trust you more than me when it comes to hockey, so I can live with the bold. :p
Wherever I went in Nationwide, it looked 50-50. There were so many people in the stands that the colors meshed a lot of the time, but there were a ton of Pitt fans there. 50-50 was probably generous, but it wouldn't surprise me. Haha
