Columbus Blue Jackets (Official Thread)

Big night for the Jackets. Win a "4 pointer" on the road, plus ANA and DAL both lost. It doesn't get much better than that. Columbus looked like the better skating and passing team tonight. Roloson kept it from getting ugly, 31 saves vs. 19 for Mason. Speaking of Mason, 8 shutouts in 42 career GP, slightly better than %19, makes me wonder what the record for a season is (% wise).

So, looking at the rest of this month's games for the Jackets.

9 games:
COL W
DET W
@CAR W
DAL OT L
STL W
@TOR W
ANA L
@CGY L
@EDM W

Detroit and @Calgary are the only tough ones (@ 'Canes maybe). Not saying they win the rest, but the schedule is pretty even the rest of the month. They definitely have their chance right in front of them. Stars, Ducks, and Oilers are their direct competition. Avs and Blues at home should be easy (though this past week proved that to be false). Is 12 points in these 9 games a good number? Will they need more? less? Is it realistic?
Well, they got 13 points in these 9 to end the month.

Anaheim got stomped 6-0 @ BOS. Dallas lost to the Blues 3-1. So a good night for the Jackets.

Next up is a big one @VAN who they are battling for 5th place.

tie breakers

Division leaders are seeded 1, 2, and 3 in Conference standings. If two or more clubs are tied in points during the regular season, the standing of the clubs is determined in the following order:

  • The fewer number of games played (i.e., superior points percentage).
  • The greater number of games won.
  • The greater number of points earned in games between the tied clubs. If two clubs are tied, and have not played an equal number of home games against each other, points earned in the first game played in the city that had the extra game shall not be included. If more than two clubs are tied, the higher percentage of available points earned in games among those clubs, and not including any "odd" games, shall be used to determine the standing.
  • The greater differential between goals for and against for the entire regular season.

What a great team win last night. Mase played great but the guys in front of him played great as well.

Loved seeing Rafi get that goal. You guys see the deke he put on Roloson? A little leg kick and then feathered it through the 5 hole!!!!!!!! Am I using correct hockey terms JO???:biggrin:

Big one in Vancouver on Sunday!!!!!!!!!!! I already told the wife that we are getting play off tickets if, God willing, they make it in.

Nothing like play off hockey. Can't wait to see it in Columbus.

I really like the Gratton pick up. Veteran leadership without having to give anyone up. Good to see him mixing it up next to Dorsett and Murray last night. Let's hope Tampa Bay can steal a regulation win from Vancouver... they've been on a slide lately.

Gratton fits in great with that line. Tough, physical players that win the board battles and fights for the puck behind the net. Not too many scoring chances out of them, but they control the puck and wear down the other team. I love watching them cycle down low. Edmonton had a bitch of a time getting the puck away, and even when they did, struggled to get it out.

Man, somebody pissed in Boll's cheerios yesterday morning. I'm surprised he didn't drop the gloves with Roloson. :lol:

rolo has his own beef with columbus. it has something to do with doug saying something like he sucked, blah blah hell never be an nhl goalie, blah blah swear word blah blah sucks. that was after the expansion draft when columbus took him in the expansion draft.

gratton fits in good. im not sure about "leadership" guys mature and hopefully he realizes this could be his last shot and hell have to play his shorts off to get a contract next year. low risk, with goood/decent reward. big guy who can get physical. dorsett/gratton/boller will go toe to toe with anyone, anyone-and they may even stir the put against everyone, on their own.

That collision early on behind the net seemed to make Boll a marked man for Roloson. Roloson gave him another shove a little later in the period. Boll taking the shot well after the whistle probably didn't help calm him down, either. :lol:

I wouldn't have minded sending Boll out on one of the power plays to park himself in front of the net, just to get on Roloson's nerves. Maybe bait him into a slash or even just to draw his attention a bit.

Beautiful pass by Boll for the goal.
