After bidding farewell to late majority owner John H. McConnell last night in Nationwide Arena, Blue Jackets fans said hello to the future -- rookies Nikita Filatov, Derick Brassard and Jake Voracek.
Seat belts fastened?
Left winger Rick Nash had two goals, Filatov scored in his first NHL game, and Brassard and Voracek combined for an eye-popping goal as the Blue Jackets opened a four-goal lead over the Nashville Predators.
But, this being the Blue Jackets, nothing came easy.

Rick Nash, who scored two goals for the Jackets, understands as much as anyone the importance of beating Nashville.
Nikita Filatov looked confused when he was asked whether Nashville's recent dominance of the Blue Jackets meant anything to him. The question was repeated a couple of times, he shrugged a couple of times and then another reporter repeated the question to him in Russian.
Filatov smiled and gave the questioner another surprised look that answered the question even before he did. To the 18-year-old rookie, beating the Predators 5-3 didn't mean any more than beating the Los Angeles Kings, Calgary Flames, Oakland Raiders or New York Mets.

Blue Jackets coach Ken Hitchcock played 18-year-old winger Nikita Filatov on a line with his most experienced available forward last night.
There are many days when Fredrik Modin feels every one of his 34 years in his aching bones and joints. But in the Jackets' home opener, Modin's mentorship and veteran presence were more noticeable than his age.
Modin assisted on Filatov's first NHL goal and set up a second goal with a strong individual effort in a 5-3 win over the Nashville Predators in Nationwide Arena.
