A. It's a fairly open secret. It's not just the Catholic schools that do it either, but the public/private thing is a glaring issue in Ohio High School sports (read that as, it isn't just a football thing, it's a whole department thing)....Name one player on Watterson’s roster who was recruited to go there.
Don’t use their name then. Use their number or position.A. It's a fairly open secret. It's not just the Catholic schools that do it either, but the public/private thing is a glaring issue in Ohio High School sports (read that as, it isn't just a football thing, it's a whole department thing)....
B. There's absolutely zero reason to name names of minors on the internet. I'm certainly NOT going to do it with you here either.
C. Don't you find it curious (like at ALL) that the various diocese in Ohio, with dwindling membership in a lot of cases, are still able to field yearly superior teams?
Feel free to keep your head in the sand if that makes you happy. At some point OHSAA will make the move to put these schools into their own division.
LOL yeah you're not getting any identifying information out of me. Nice try though.Don’t use their name then. Use their number or position.
We’re talking about Watterson here. Not DeSales (superior 18-11 regular season record the past 3 seasons) or Hartley (superior 19-11 regular season record over past 3 seasons) or Toledo Central Catholic or St. Ed’s or…
I'm not jumping into this argument, because it's pretty lame and who really cares. But my nephew wasn't recruited to play football. I'm not going to share anything specific about him, but his parents wanted to send their kids to private catholic schools.C. And that's great and exactly how it should be. I can promise you it's not the same scenario for a not insignificant percentage.I'm not jumping into this argument, because it's pretty lame and who really cares. I would guess that a lot of families are like that, for various reasons. Their reason is none of my business.
I don't follow high school football otherwise. The only reason I follow it here is because of my nephew. For your first line, I'll take your word for it.And that's great and exactly how it should be. I can promise you it's not the same scenario for a not insignificant percentage.
I think there should be a public/private division split. Maybe that should be a different thread.
It's not just football though, wrestling, baseball, probably basketball but that's the one I don't follow very closely, definitely happens in softball.I don't follow high school football otherwise. As for your second line, you might have a point. Toledo Central Catholic appeared to be a pile of really big high school kids. And who are the other good teams every year? St. Ignatius? St. Edward? St. Xavier? Probably some public schools, too, but maybe disproportionate number of private schools up there.
Meh..
This.Just coming in with a stray to say that “recruitment” of high school athletes is nothing new and not exclusive to private schools. Growing up in Alabama it happened all the time with powerhouse public schools.
Does the division really matter that much in the regular season? Looking at BW's regular season, only 3 of 10 games were against Div-3 teams. 5 games were against Div-2 teams, and 1 each Div-1 and Div-5 teams. Is that typical? It's not just football though, wrestling, baseball, probably basketball but that's the one I don't follow very closely, definitely happens in softball.
I talked to a media guy a few years ago at a playoff game I was scoring (being an official scorer is a trip by the way), who said when Ohio re-does its divisions (which they did last year before the 2024/25 academic year), they should go to the private school | public "bending the rules to fit them" type school | public "community" school set up. That didn't happen this time around though.
Not as much - with the expansion of the playoff system (a whole other can of worms, I think it's ridiculous to make high school kids play 16 games in a season to win a title), regular seasons aren't nearly as important when it comes to making the playoffs. I'm specifically talking about playoffs/end of season tournaments when it comes to the split.Does the division really matter that much in the regular season? Sure, I suppose once the playoffs start they'll be split by division, but regular season seems to be jumbled up, like, "who cares what division we're in?"
It’s okay to admit that you spoke in haste & really don’t know what you’re talking about when it comes to Watterson. It’s also okay to stop hitting the reply/post button.LOL yeah you're not getting any identifying information out of me. Nice try though.
Just because they aren't getting the pick of the litter anymore doesn't mean they aren't trying. Believe what you want to believe, it still happens and it's not just a Watterson thing.
More to the point, they all do, even the one in Newark is trying (again).
It's ok to not be so sensitive. It's ok to not reply yourself. It’s okay to admit that you spoke in haste & really don’t know what you’re talking about when it comes to Watterson. It’s also okay to stop hitting the reply/post button.
