I can see how it could be bad, like the whole YouTube celebrity boxing thing has really become a bane on that sport.

I do think there are worse things, the ridiculous conference re-alignment is a bigger threat than Deion’s shenanigans imo.

I think the NIL is great, and the portal is fine but probably should have some regulation because transferring has become a bit of a Wild West scenario.

It's not necessarily Deion that poses the biggest threat.....it's what comes next when people see the cheap antics you can pull to get these high profile positions.

That’s fair.

I will say, I think Deion is an anomaly to a degree.

Yes he is a loudmouth with cheap antics, but he did prove himself in HBCU level with a good record at Jax State. It’s not like he coached a few games there and sucked and then got a P5 job.

Also CU is now a high profile position because Deion is Deion. Even if he were a successful coach in the HBCU circuit with the same results but wasn’t a great college and nfl player (and a decent mlb player) with a high profile persona, I think Colorado would not be getting nearly as much attention.

Point being, he did work his way up a bit and Colorado was NOT a desirable job by any means for a long time.

If he went from Jax State to say, Auburn or even Nebraska, I’d say that his cheap antics got him an unwarranted position.

But he went from Jax State, where he did well, to one of the most undesirable P5 jobs and has won there (so far).

Point being, there are many factors to this Deion phenomenon, most other coaches who try such goofy gimmicks will end up with career trajectories more like PJ Fleck or Butch Jones.

Is Deion really planning on staying at Colorado long term?

To me it doesn't feel like it.

He's basically living off of his QB son and Travis Hunter.

The recruiting boom has not really been there. They currently only have 8 Commits' and only 2 are above 3*, I doubt they are going to add a flood of 4/5* players to fill the class out, its most likely going to be majority 3*. These upper level players are probably having a good time visiting and enjoying the current hype atmosphere there, but doesn't feel like they are fully buying into it at the moment.

If Shedeur goes pro after this year, they are going to have a hard time next year, unless maybe they can land a top end transfer at QB.

Wouldn't be shocking at all to me if he tries to bargain for a NFL job or something after this season if that's the case.

I may have watched a game or two in December after the p5 teams were mostly done playing. That’s a long winded way of saying I have no clue how much of a factor that played but I’m sure it did.

However, critics of Saban say similar things about his stacking of talent being the catalyst of his success more than his coaching acumen.

College football is a talent acquisition battle, moreso than in the nfl where there’s more parity across the board (of course it’s important to have talent there too), so Deion being able to do that plays in his favor.

Overall, he might be a medicore HC, but he can attract talent and he does seem to motivate them to play with intensity and passion. If he can do that, and make good assistant/coordinator hires, he be doing a better job than a large number of HCs at the ncaa level.

Hell Ed Orgeron basically used that formula to win a national championship.
